TW: Mentions of suicide
Dan's POV
"Thank y-you."
I regret the words that come out my mouth almost instantly as I can feel Phil's gaze on me.
"Thank you?" He repeats. "Thank you for what?"
I sigh deeply, trying to push past the voice in my head screaming at me to shut up.
"For e-everything." I pause for a moment to make sure I won't break down. "W-When you s-saved m-me after I-I killed m-myself... i-it just s-showed me t-that y-you really c-care. You've b-been such a-an amazing f-friend to m-me a-and you've o-only known m-me for a f-few m-months." I smile at him. Not one of those small, half-hearted smiles that I usually give people. No, a full, proper smile. "You're m-my best friend, Phil, y-you know t-that, r-right?" Why did it hurt slightly to say that? He is.
Wait, did his smile just falter for a second?
"I know. And you're mine, Dan." He replies, smiling brightly.
Holy shit I don't have a crush on him do I? I'm straight, how does that work? I am straight, right?
I try my best to shake off the thoughts and just appreciate the time I have now with Phil but it's so hard to ignore them. It's all so confusing.
"Dan?"
I snap out of my thoughts and try to shake them off as I make a small 'hmm' to show Phil I'm paying attention.
"You good?"
I nod once but it's clear he can see through it.
"Something on your mind?"
I go to shake my head but hesitate for a second, knowing he won't believe me, and nod timidly.
"You want to talk about it?"
Rapidly, I shake my head. How the fuck do I explain the shit in my mind right now to the guy that the shit's directed at?
Phil looks concerned for a few seconds but shrugs it off and we fall into a comfortable silence, watching as the sun disappears behind the sea. But, too quickly, darkness blankets the sky and we make our way back through the woodland after I slip my jacket back on. I manage to jump-scare Phil by yelling in his ear, breaking the silence, but he soon gets me back by copying my actions as well as lightly pushing me into a tree. We end up chasing eachother through the trees, trying to catch the other person. After a few minutes of running around in the dark, I eventually sneak up behind him and wrap my arms around him from behind, fighting a burning blush on my face. Phil squeals and falls to the floor, bringing me down with him. Trying my best not to be awkward, I roll away so I don't end up on top of him, but my left arm remains trapped underneath Phil.
"Jesus Christ Dan..." Phil laughs, still getting his breath back. For a moment, we lay there, but he seems to notice my arm so he sits up to let it go, which disappoints me a little. I sit up just as he stands and he holds out his hand to help me out. It's only brief, but my heart seems to race and my face goes red as our hands connect. We manage to get out of the now pitch black woodland and I don't bother mentioning the twig and leaf stuck in Phil's hair.
* * * at the following weekend * * *
"Dan Dan Dan Dan Dan!" Phil comes charging towards me as I start to his house, going to turn at his door but quickly changing my footing so I keep going and he falls into step with me.
"W-what what what w-what what?"
"Me and my family are going up north to visit some family during the half term and my mum said I could invite you as I'm always bored out of my mind, would you want to come?" He asks me at the speed of fucking light, practically bouncing as he walks. I chuckle slightly, causing Phil to blush in embarrassment.
"Yeah, t-that'd be g-great." I smile at him. "I-I have n-nothing better to d-do."
Phil attacks me in a sideward hug. "Yay! There are so many things I want to show you, we have loads of cool stuff there. This is going to be so much fun!"
"Is t-there Starbucks?" I look at him hopefully, giving him some sort of pleading puppy dog look. He laughs at my expression but I keep it up until he answers.
"Yes there is, don't you worry. We can still fulfil our inner white teenage fangirl needs there. Speaking of which, Starbucks is about 5 minutes away, shall we head there?" I nod in response and we turn the corner.

Yeah ok I know this is shorter than usual, but I didn't know how to carry on into the next part without dragging it out and making it way too long so I just cut it off here. I know where this story is going now, no more improvising for a while, so hopefully you like where I'm taking the plot.
Again, thanks so much for 300 reads!
