Cole was going to be okay.

The injuries were deep, but thanks to my mom and her medical background, she got him cleaned and fixed up really nicely.

Apparently Austin's patrol was just heading back home from their loop when the rogues attacked unexpectedly. Sierra had been pinned down and couldn't fight back, so Cole took charge and attempted to fight the rogue himself. He would have succeeded, had another rogue not joined the fight. That's where his wounds came from. Thankfully, Justin's patrol heard the commotion and got to the fight quickly and helped Austin chase the rogues off before any more injuries could be inflicted.

No matter how many times my Beta and Delta reassured me that it wasn't my fault, I couldn't help feeling like it was. I was an idiot. What kind of Alpha leaves their pack like that when there are now 5 rogues in the territory?

I was a downright terrible Alpha.

"When will he wake up?" I hear Sierra whisper to my mom. I keep my eyes trained on Cole's bandages from my seat beside his bed, holding his hand. He had been asleep for a few hours now, and Sierra nor I had left his side.

"He might sleep through the night. It's pretty late." My mom replied thoughtfully. I lift my head to see her looking right at me. I let out a sigh and stand up.

"Okay. I'll go to bed." I mumble, messing with my hair. My mom nods.

"You should go home and sleep too, Sierra. He will be okay here. His wolf will start healing his wounds soon, so he should be fully healed by morning."

Sierra gives my mom a sad nod and kisses her brother on the forehead, before leaving without saying a word. I look from my mom back to Cole.

"I need to get those rogues out of this territory. From what I heard, they attacked about 2 miles away from the training grounds." I say lowly, my eyebrows furrowed together in thought. My mom bites her lip and looks at Cole.

"They seem to be moving closer to home." There it was. Her worrying.

I look at her and sigh heavily before walking to her and giving her a warm hug.

"I'll keep you and Chris safe, Momma." I whisper into her hair, and I feel her relax into my hug.

"I know you will." She whispers back, and then pulls away. "Now, up to bed! You've got a busy day tomorrow." She gives me a knowing look, causing me to groan out loud.

School.

I was just finishing up my Junior year of High School. So far it has gone pretty well. My pack and I usually lay low in school and try not to get noticed. Sure, people call us weird for keeping to ourselves, but we honestly could care less. If these people knew we were risking our lives to keep their lives safe, they would be worshiping us.

I slug up the stairs that leads to the bedrooms, turning lights off along the way. I pass Chris's bedroom and see his door is still open. With a frown I poke my head in, only to see he is fast asleep. I bite my lip and quietly walk into his bedroom. He sleeps so neatly and peacefully. How can he do that? I shake my head fondly and lean down, kissing his head.

Sure, I can get annoyed with Chris pretty easily, but he's still my brother. I still care for him. I still am protective over him. He's really my whole world.

I sit on the edge of his bed and slowly start to play with his hair. If I didn't have Chris, I don't know what I would do with myself. I give him another kiss on his head.

"I will keep you safe. I promise."
