You watched Finn get hauled into a police car through the dusty windows of your car. He was still screaming something, possibly the same words he had shrieked in everyone's ears just moments before he was handcuffed.
"Y/n! Go! Don't risk getting yourself caught too! I'm begging you! Go!" He shooed you out of the main entrance, trying to get you out of the way so he was the one to get arrested. You looked at him one last time before turning to run for the van, and in that moment, he calmly and quickly recited what sounded like a poem.
"Nature's first green is gold, her hardest hue to hold. Her early leaf's a flower, but only so an hour. Then leaf subsides to leaf, so Eden sank to grief, so dawn goes down to day. Nothing gold can stay."
Wyatt's arms were now dragging you the final inch into the van, and Jake sped away as the door shut. Police cars were now tailing you, and you hoped that Jake would shake them off.
"What did he say to you?" Wyatt was shaking you from your zoned-out daze.
That's when you realized what Finn had said.
"Nothing gold can stay." You whispered to Wyatt.
"What? What does that mean?" He asked.
"It was the last line of a poem. He told me the poem." You breathed.
"What's the poem called?"
"I don't know." You looked at him. Wyatt appeared very calm for what had just happened.
"Do you remember anymore of the poem?" He asked.
You nodded.
"Nature's first green is gold, her hardest hue to hold. Her early's leaf's a flower, but only so an hour. Then leaf subsides to leaf, so Eden sank to grief, so dawn goes down to day. Nothing gold can stay." You recited the poem line by line, word for word, which had not only surprised you, but apparently everyone else in the van.
"That was Finn and Millie's thing. It was their favourite. Finn said he liked it because of it's meaning." Wyatt told you.
"What does it mean?" You asked him.
"It means that all good things must come to an end, and I'm guessing he was talking about this whole plan. He was always a Debbie Downer, seeing the bad side of things. But, he balanced us. He grounded us when we were being unrealistic." Wyatt explained.
"So what happens now?" You ask the group.
"We lay low until this clears up more. Could be up to six months to clear up, but i'll keep tabs on Finn." Nic said.
Nobody spoke the rest of the ride. When Jake pulled up to Finn's house, reality finally sunk in. Finn got arrested, and here you are, walking into his house. You quickly walked to get your bags, and saw that Wyatt was already inside, sitting on the bed.
"Where are you going to go?" He looked up at you as you walked in.
"I'll call the company I work for. Tell them my van's been bugged and my apartment was broken into. They'll give me a new van, check my apartment out and if it's fine, I'll go back to my old life," You told him, "What about you?"
"Not sure. See if my other friends can help me out for a couple days while I get back on my feet." He shrugged.
"You could stay with me, if my apartment is good." You offered to him.
"You sure? I'm not intruding or anything?" Wyatt asked.
"Nah. It gets pretty lonely there anyways." You smiled.
He smiled back, and grabbed his bags and walked out of the room.
You lingered in the room for another moment before your eyes landed on Millie's painting once again. You really took it in. A sunset, what Finn used to ground himself. She really did sound amazing.
You grabbed your bags and walked back down the hallway for the final time. Everyone else was already outside, getting ready to leave.
You put your bags in the back of your van, and walked over to the boys.
"Thank you for this. For the good times in a bad situation. I'll miss you." You smiled at the circle of boys. Without saying anything, they engulfed each other in a group hug.
"See ya 'round?" Owen smiled at you as you hopped in the driver seat of your van, and Wyatt in the passenger.
"Definitely." You smiled back at him and waved to the boys as you backed out of the driveway.
Your van's headlights lit up the road as you drove to find a pay phone.
