Chapter 4
"Good morning, Alpha."
Kaleb responded with a small wave after hearing the pack member's hushed greeting. "Good morning." He nodded.
Kaleb was the first to break eye contact and continued his fast pace. Where could she be? He wondered with furrowed brows.
Where did I last see her? Is she eating well? Is she drinking enough water? Is she safe? More questions piled up in Kaleb's head. Kaleb didn't have the answers to those questions and it frustrated him even more. He couldn't stand it, he was unsettled.
Sapphire was nowhere to be found the past few days. The whole family and those close to Sapphire searched day and night.
The night of the ceremony was when they discovered that Sapphire was missing. Kara went home right after the ceremony to get her trusty camera, but upon entering the house, she knew Sapphire was gone.
People wondered why the white-furred puppy wasn't at the ceremony and began the search the moment Kara announced that Sapphire wasn't at the packhouse.
No trace of Sapphire was recognized. She disappeared. Her scent was nowhere to be found and her paw tracks were never identified.
With Sapphire's absence, the packhouse was incomplete. It seemed like a whole piece of the packhouse' spirit was ripped away.
Kaleb clenched his fists in exasperation. He wanted to scream his heart out. This was already his 5th time of searching for Sapphire around the whole territory yet his effort was unavailing.
The Alpha opened the main doors, his eyes meeting the woods. It was time he stepped out of the territory. How far could she have gone?
He took one more whiff of the air, thinking that maybe, she was in reach. However, he failed to catch Sapphire's scent.
I can't give up. Kaleb thought to himself before bolting straight into the forest. All his energy was directed to finding his family.
Kaleb's eyes didn't fail to look at every nook and cranny, searching for a glimpse of snow white fur. He continuously endeavoured. He was yet again unsuccessful. He darted forward, not knowing his destination. He continued to run, unconsciously crossing the pack's territory.
Kaleb's mind stirred the moment he noticed something different, he felt no power. He was out of the boundary line. The scent of home immeasurably of distance.
He yet again took a whiff of the air, bits of hope piling his whole being. He was already outside his territory. It'd be impossible for him to not even catch a small bit of Sapphire's scent.
However, it was to no avail.
Where could she be? He asked himself yet again, eyeing the area he no longer recognized. Who could have taken her? No, did she run away? If she did, Why? Kaleb's face harbored a troubled expression as he questioned himself.
Kaleb didn't know what to do. His mind couldn't function properly. The Alpha didn't fully grasp the situation. He couldn't believe it.
It was all so cryptic.
The Alpha didn't recall anything atypical in the pack that would prompt her to leave. Kaleb remembered her peculiar actions. Something was out of the ordinary that day. Maybe she noticed something suspicious. Maybe she noticed someone.
Kaleb rested on the dry ground, his head hung low in exhaustion. It was all too sudden. He was supposed to be jovial but that was all dismissed with Sapphire missing. The Alpha turned into a gloomy mess.
