Chapter 12

"Have any of you seen Kaleb?"

Cyres and Ava's attention immediately snapped towards the timid princess standing by the opened office doors. Ava simply glanced at Sapphire lethargically and returned her gaze towards her phone, scrolling down her newsfeed for anything interesting. Cyres settled her novel down her desk and peered at Sapphire through the thin rims of her glasses— her eyes were of perfect vision, the glasses were just for the sake of her business outfit.

Teasingly, Cyres said, "I thought it was postponed till' the New Year?"

Sapphire opened her mouth to respond, but was immediately cut off by a familiar voice she knew of for only a few weeks. "What does posepone mean?" Connor asked, tapping on his chin as he stood by Sapphire.

Sapphire looked at the curly-haired boy beside her and ruffled his hair, somewhat proud at how the child fixed his pronunciation in less than a month. "Hello to you too!" Connor greeted amidst his giggles. The moment Sapphire stopped, he once again faced Cyres and asked, "Posepone?"

"It means magic."

Connor's eyes twinkled with amazement as his imagination took over his thoughts. "There's going to be a magic show this New Year?" With the excitement evident in his features, Connor gasped and clasped his hands together in joy.

"I don't know. Maybe." Cyres responded with a smirk, thinking of whether she should actually book a magic show for the New Year.

Connor hummed in return, and the next thing everyone knew, Connor sat by Ava on the couch with his head resting on her forearm and eyes gliding along Ava's continuous scrolls on her phone. "Woah— nice picture. Who's that?" Connor pointed at the screen, motioning towards a celebrity posing for photos.

"Wonderwoman." Ava answered with a montonous tone and continued to scroll.

"Woah— nice picture. Who's that?"

"Gal Gadot."

Cyres propped her elbows on her desk and entwined her fingers to settle her chin onto. She looked at Sapphire who had already sat herself on another couch, "Darling, I want details. Are the both of you now on level D? The fourth step? The fifth stage? Ugh! You tell me."

"What's in level D?"

"The letter D." Ava decided to answer the child, rolling her eyes at him. Connor nodded and shifted his position, now lying on the lavish furniture and the back of his head planted on Ava's thigh.

"It's only been three days, Cyres." Sapphire stated and chuckled, earning a laugh from her godmother.

Cyres whistled, "That Alpha sure knows how to hold back."

"Woah— pwe— pretty flower." Connor now had his chin on Sapphire's knee, eyeing the peony in her hand.

A blush instantly bloomed upon Sapphire's cheeks as she gazed at the flower. She recalled how the moment she opened her eyes, she was greeted with a single peony resting on her bedside table. The flower was accompanied by a small felicitous note greeting her a wonderful morning. Such of course, was signed by her one and only mate.

"Kaleb gave it to me." Sapphire smiled at the boy and playfully brushed the fragile petals against his cheek.

"Why would Keb give it to you? Does he like you?"

Cyres bit back a laugh, "More than like, honey. They're mates."

"Woah— what's mates?" Connor cocked a brow at his guardian as he asked. He now stood straight by Cyres' office chair with his folded arms encasing his small figure.
