Chapter 3

A day had passed and Sapphire was still confused. What did she feel about Kaleb? There was something wrong.

Last night, she couldn't even bring herself to enter Kaleb's room. It was as if there was a strong connection— a bond between them. Sapphire couldn't pinpoint what it was.

Sapphire took a step forward and backward Kaleb's room during bedtime. Kaleb had noticed it but left her alone. He just thought that Sapphire was going through thoughts regarding the presence of shadows.

In the end, Sapphire slept in Kara's room.

Sapphire lounged on the living room couch as the ceremony coordinators scurried around the hall in haste. She eyed their movements lifelessly.

Yes, today was Kaleb's ceremony.

Sapphire was delighted knowing that Kaleb was to be Alpha. He had good leadership and was trusted by the majority. It seemed like he was born to be in lead.

However, it somehow saddened Sapphire. Thinking of how busy Kaleb was going to be due to Alpha duties sunk her heart to the depths. She imagined him no longer giving her the attention she was always given.

No! Sapphire shook her head at the thought. Why was she thinking that now when she already knew that her master was to be Alpha a long time ago? She shouldn't be selfish. He deserves the position.

Don't think about you only Sapphire! Think about his well-being! Sapphire convinced herself that there were enough people around her. She didn't need Kaleb at all! She thought that she should worry about his health— the stress he is to go through when he's Alpha!

And again, it was quite unusual. She was having such thoughts about Kaleb. She was never anxious about him. What was happening to her?

Ever since yesterday, she started to feel different. Like something was going to crash into her life so suddenly. Sapphire couldn't help the rush of emotions every time she would see Kaleb. She wanted to pounce on him immediately.

Sapphire wanted to get rid if these unfavorable thoughts. I shouldn't attend the ceremony. She thought and actually agreed with it. It was Kaleb's day and it's his perfect time to shine. The stage doesn't need a dog shying behind the new Alpha. She didn't want to disturb the ceremony due to her uncontrollable emotions.

Sapphire took small and hesitant steps forward, towards the open doors of the packhouse. Currently, no wolf would hinder her way and smother her in snuggles and cuddles as everyone was busy for the coming ceremony.

She exited the packhouse, a breeze of sophisticated odor and the faint feeling of the ground vibrating bombarded her the moment she got out. Sapphire heard the wheels of several cars rolling along a cemented road and the intoxicating perfumes of women in the far distance, knowing that these cars and scents were owned by the ones invited for the extravagant ceremony.

A Couvreux had enhanced hearing and smell, even better than the High Lycans.

Gazed upon by the warm light, Sapphire fixated her eyes on the mighty trees standing just a small distance away. Some may say that the forest was unsettling, but it was the complete opposite for Sapphire. For Sapphire, the feeling of being surrounded by nature brought her relief, knowing that just a few steps down, her special place waited.

Sapphire trotted out of the large gates and towards the mysterious forest of pine. Not a feeling of uncertainty stumbled upon Sapphire's chest the moment she was surrounded by nature's warriors. She was used to it by now. She'd come to the forest almost everyday for the last 10 years.
