"So, that's it then?" I ask only slightly afraid of the answer. The last thing I want it to sign my name some more.

"That's it." My lawyer, Janette, replies with a sweet smile while she collects the paper work in front of her. She compiles it all into a folder with a smile painted on her pink lips.

My best friend and I have just spent the better part of an hour reading through and signing the documents to purchase the bar we are standing in and now it's all done.

I look to Marco with a wide grin before extending my hand for a manly shake.

"We are business owners, bro." He exclaims with an even bigger smile than my own.

Who would have thought that after working at the same bar, day in day out for 8 years it would eventually become partially mine.

Marco and I started working at Friends With Alibis when we were in college to make some extra money. We came to love the place and soon enough the owner stepped back to let us run it as co-managers. When Chris the owner said he had enough and wanted to move away and sell the business he asked us first. Marco and I quickly pooled our cash and now Friends With Alibis the bar is officially ours.

"I can't wait to tell Jules." I say, grabbing my keys from the underneath the bar and sliding them into my back pocket.

My girlfriend Jules and I have been dating for 7 months and have been talking about moving in together. Now that the sale of business has gone through, I can put more time into us and really have a go at settling down. Something I never thought I'd do a few years back.

"Go and surprise your woman. I'm gonna go tell my cousin. It's gonna be great to be her boss." Marco laughs manically and I shake my head.

"You have been her boss for for over a year. You owning the business won't change that."

"Yeah, I know but now I have the official title and since we don't really have many other staff it will be good to hold this over her."

Marco makes a mad dash into the back area leaving Janette and I alone by the bar.

"I take it he is excited." Janette exclaims and I scoff at her understatement.

"Just a bit. I'll walk you to your car."

I escort Janette to her car and then take off towards Jules's house. I even stop to grab a bouquet of daisies for her since I know they are her favourite.

As soon as I reach the door to her apartment, I begin frantically knocking. Finally, she comes to the door and opens it only just enough so she can she who it is.

"What are you doing here?" She asks with wide eyes. I definitely surprised her.

"I have some great news for us and I also brought you some flowers." I say as I try to push the door open but she holds it in place. "Aren't you going to let me in?" I ask a little taken back by her conduct.

"I'm actually not feeling very well. I think I have a stomach bug and wouldn't want you to catch it."

My smile drops as I stare at her face. Her eyes give her away. She is lying to me. Jules has never been a good liar.

"What's going on Jules?" I say lowly not knowing what to fully expect. Something doesn't seem right.

"Nothing. I'm just sick and don't want you to catch it." She blurts out quickly.

I raise my brow at her and give her a stern look.

"Something's up. I know it. Tell me what's going on." I practically demand as I can now visibly see the worry in her eyes.
