The sky slowly darkening; hues of reds, yellows and orange scattered across the lightly illuminated sky as the sun sets. The ball of flame almost went to bed, going to rest for the next morning, when it would rise cheerfully again to wake up billions of people like it always does. But, little does it know that there's only few who's going to see it's light.
Emma and Carl had been laid into their forever resting place a few minutes ago. Leaves gently swaying back and forth as the gentle zephyr blows. The world quieter than ever before that even my ears search for the slightest of noise to prove their existence. Seems like even nature has no words to speak after their gruesome deaths caused by nature's own mischievous play.
We had drove to this apartment by this graveyard. Later on, Harlan, Glenn, Harry and I went back to get Emma and Carl's bodies to bury them here. Even though we cannot give them a proper funeral, Harlan wanted to bury them here in a graveyard rather than leaving them there in the van to rot.
It's not only Harlan and his feelings. Neither of us wanted to leave them there, after all, they were a part of us. Harry had told me, actually warned me, to stay back but I fought to go with them. Ignoring the lingering horrendous flashbacks of their death sight I went back and I regretted it.
In only an hour and half their body had decayed. Not fully but parts of their body horribly did. I can still smell the noisome smell of the decayed flesh and bones making me feel nauseous and the flashing sight of the scene making me uneasy.
Darkness took over and the bright stars started glimmering in the dark sky. Lacy black clouds preventing the moon from providing it's aureate on this planet.
After we came back to this abandoned apartment, some of us took their places in the corners of the living room which was once used. We ate and drank a little before curling up with some blankets Maggie and Jared found earlier. Harlan hadn't eaten or drank anything but maggie managed to make him eat. On the other hand there's harry, stubborn and still refusing a drop of water.
Emma and Carl meant a lot to him as far as I can understand. While everyone lied down he kept standing by the window in the other room. His gaze fixed on the graveyard outside and the road to make sure whatever's lurking out there in the darkness stays in the darkness.
None of us have properly talked after moving in here. Grief hung in the air and everyone including me seemed to fill it into our lungs and body even more. I wasn't even over the world changing yet,and now their death has overwhelmed me.
"Hey." I hear.
Shifting my gaze from my hands to up into the darkness i see a figure. The moon's light that came through the window and helped me to see. It's Aaron.
"Hey." I said back. Shifting a little to the side to give Aaron some space to sit.
He sat down beside me with a blanket grasped in his hands and eyes on me.
"Uh" he cleared his throat before speaking.
"You okay?"
"I'm trying to be." I said.
"It's been a while since we have talked properly." He paused for a second and opened his mouth to say something but did not.
"Yeah. In a few days we lost everything. We don't even know if the whole world is okay or not." I say looking away.
"I think it's not." He said, and I looked at him. "If it was, they would send help for us because before the network died the news had shown how worse our situation was."
I sighed and looked away and kept staring at the emptiness of the darkness.
"You should sleep,Emily. Take some rest." He said, handing me over the blanket with his hands.
