I gasped and sucked in deep breaths while I move my fingers interacting with the scratches that was tattooed by an infected. It is fresh, the area beside the scratches turned red but the rest of the skin beside it, pale than my skin usually was. I can feel sweat form on my skin and slowly dripping down only forming a dense cloud of thoughts around my head, preventing me to think straight and letting the old horrendous flashbacks of the gruesome deaths to rip through me.
Carl's playful, innocent face flashed in front of my eyes from the few days that we spent together at the old, annihilated sanctuary. A small smile formed on the corner of my lips but soon fell on the ground as his dying face flashed in front of my eyes next. The flashback of the time when I last talked to Carl before making our way to the drug store and a small drop of warm tear escaped my overfilled eyes.
"I'm going to die aren't I?"
"You'll be fine."
That was Carl's last words. I had ensured him that he'll be fine but he's gone. Gone far, far away into the world which is still unknown to the mankind. Maybe he is okay. Despite his gruesome death, he is now resting and is safe from the danger that walks upon the Earth.
No medication had helped Carl. Though, i already knew that the medicine i had was useless but I had in mind that it would at least bring down his heat and cease his pain a little. However it didn't work and in an hour or so, his limbs seemed to give up on him and in minutes he was gone along with Emma.
I hear a knock on the door followed by a familiar voice, snapping me out of my thoughts. However, it wasn't the same voice i heard before which was Harry's.
"Hey, miss Smith. You okay?" The voice said from the other side of the door and it took me less than a second to recognize who it was.
Loraine.
"Yeah, i am." I said a little loud to make sure it reaches her.
"You've been in there for a while now. Are you sure you're okay?" She questioned and I could feel she is concerned through her voice.
"I'm just cleaning that blood off me. Don't worry, I'm fine mom." I teased like I always do when she acts too protective.
"Okay, daughter." She said and let out small giggle before I heard her footsteps leading out the room leaving me with my thoughts again.
I looked into the mirror hoping these thoughts would just go away but they seemed to just cement the fear, and the flashbacks in my mind. I feel my blood practically run cold, sending a wave of chills run down my spine and throughout my body. I can now feel myself break into jagged pieces and fall on the ground as trepidation took over me. I can now imagine myself of how I'll be in a few hours. My body would give out unbearable heat, drenching me in sweat and pain stinging me in every inch of me as I would say my goodbyes and wait for my end to come.
My eyes welled up again and again i feel warm tears roll down my cheeks leaving wet stains over my skin. I need to fix myself up and make sure everyone's alright before the table turns.
I reached out to the antiseptic that sat upon a shelf in the bathroom. Using it to drench a little bit of cotton which also sat with the bottle of antiseptic. I let out a deep breath before starting to count down, preparing myself because the pain wouldn't be good.
One, two, three.
I counted in head and pressed the cotton against the scratches to feel a sharp sting. I hissed at the pain and irritation on my skin. Quickly, I rubbed the entire area clensing it before draping the wound with bandages.
I held the hem of the new T-shirt and slid it on before looking to myself into the mirror. I look horrible.
