I wake up later that night because of a bad dream or should I say nightmare. It was about Cole and me. Cole had asked me to be his girlfriend. Although, that part wasn’t the bad part. I actually wish that was true. Anyways, after he asked me, he took me to his house and that is where it got bad. His parents told him that they had some bad news. King Parker had made a declaration that all groups would be separated with concrete walls. Cole screamed that this couldn’t happen. That is when I woke up screaming and crying. Thank goodness that was just a dream. I have no clue what I would have done if that was real. My dad then comes rushing into the tent. I am a little in shock that he is up late until I realize it is about 8:12 in the morning.
“What is wrong?” My dad asks.
“I just had a bad dream.” I reply.
“Ok. If you say so.”
Then my dad walks out of the tent. I get up after him and walk down to the river. I dip my hands into the water and splash my face. It is really cold. I just ignore it and then start back to the tent. Then I decide to just start towards the town. It will take me a few minutes to get there, so I will be safe. On my way to the alleyway I think back to last night. Everything seemed perfect last night, but I am not sure that today will be the same. As I get to the end of the alley I hear voices. They are whispering about something. I cannot tell who is speaking, but they are either in this alley or the one right beside this one. I end up running into someone. When I look up I see Cole is standing there speaking to Parker. They must have been talking about something private since they are hidden away from the rest of the town.
I say, “Oops. I’m just going to leave I think.”
“You don’t have to do that.” Cole says.
Parker states, “Unless she heard our conversation.”
I reply, “I could not hear your conservation. In fact, if I knew you were down here, I would have gone right past here to another alleyway.”
Parker rolls his eyes at me.
Cole says, “Oh wow. Can you guys like tolerate each other? I realize you will not be best friends, but you are both my friends.”
“Yes, but we are two different people and you know I do not really like the other Magestees,” I state.
“Look, something we have in common. We both hate each other,” Parker responds, “I still cannot believe you two are friends.”
Cole replies, “Actually, we aren’t friends. Kierra is my girlfriend.”
I blush and look away. Since when was that true?
“Oh, did I forget to check that over with you? I just figured after we kissed twice last night you knew that,” Cole says to me.
I look up and smile, especially when Parker says, “Wait a second, you guys are in love!? That is not possible like at all! It will never work.”
I smirk replying, “I thought the same thing. However, there is nothing against us being together. It is not like we are trying to change the group we are in, because now that is against the law. I thought you would know that as you are the wonderful prince that everyone seems to adore. Don’t think I like you though.”
Then I turn around and walk out of the alley. I suddenly do not think it will be a good idea for me to be near the prince I might have just insulted. I walk over to a different alley and start down it. Suddenly I know Cole has followed me when he grabs me from behind. He pulls me close to him.
“Let me go.” I whisper.
“I’ll let you go if you promise not to run.”
“Let me go.”
