Chapter 11

  When we get back into the room with all the Magestees, Nakayla turns to me.

  “You are very quiet all of a sudden. What is wrong?” Nakayla asks.

  I shrug, “Did it seem like the queen I guess knew me to you?”

 “I do not know, Kierra. She was interrupted. I have no idea what she was going to say.”

 I reply, “It does not matter. It was probably nothing.”

 “Good, now I’m going to go if that is alright.” Nakayla says as she looks over toward Parker.

 “Seriously? Just go, Nakayla.” I say.

 Nakayla happily runs off to Parker and I go find Cole. He is over with some other Magestees. Great. I think to myself. I slowly walk over to him. At first he does not notice me. He looks up for a second and sees me. He comes over to me.

 “Where have you been?” Cole asks me.

 “I was with Nakayla until she decided she would rather be elsewhere.” I say.

 “So, she went to be with Parker and you thought it would be a good time to come find me. You know, Kierra, sometimes I think you would rather be with someone other than me.”

 I look up into Cole’s eyes and reply, “Cole, I love you. I mean that, but I just feel that anytime we are together something awkward happens. I just…”

 Suddenly, River pops in saying, “I think you are the girl named Kierra right?”

 “Yes...” I say concerned.

 “So, my planetta wants to see you  for some reason.”

 I look over to Cole.  He says, “River, can you maybe explain a little more to Kierra, but in a way she can understand.”

 River looks at me. “My mother, I think, has something she wants to ask you. I don’t know any more than that. I can not make you come, but it seems important. So, what do you say? Do you trust me enough to believe me?”

 I respond, “I am not sure. I mean how do I know this is real?”

 Cole tells me, “You can trust River. She is not like Parker if that is what you are afraid of Kierra.”

 I take a deep breath. “Alright, but,” I turn to Cole, “Will you come with me?”

 “Of course. I would do anything for you...almost anything actually.” Cole responds.

 I smile as River heads out of the room, away from the party. Cole grabs my hand and leads me out. I like that Cole is here with me. I do not understand this place, these Magestees. I do not know that I could do this alone. My whole life I have lived in fear of these type of people and now I find myself involved with Magestees, both nice and cruel Magestees. I am afraid now of what the queen, the woman who was the queen, wants to tell me. I think Cole knows what I am feeling.

 He whispers, “Everything will be fine, Kierra.”

 “I hope so.” I say, softly.

 I look up as we walk into a room. I see the same lady from moments ago in the room. She sees me and turns to River.

 “I really did not think you could get her here, River. She seems like the type of girl who only does what she wants and keeps to the people she is comfortable around.”

 I reply, “That is a very true statement and the only reason I am here is because Cole seems to think I should trust River.”

 “Good to know. Now, you are not by any chance Kierra-Marine, are you?”
