The next morning I wake up and see that I am at Nakayla’s house again. When did this happen? I get up and go outside where I find Nakayla on her porch. She smiles when she sees me. I smile and walk over to her.
She asks, “Do you want to go into the town or not?”
“We can go to the town if you want. I don't care.”
“Great. Let’s go.”
Before I can say any more, Nakayla grabs my hand and drags me to the road that goes into town. A few people are out going about their business, but it is mostly empty. That is rare. I am used to seeing a crowd in the town doing who knows what. We walk on the sidewalk where we see Cole and Parker in the distance. They are talking about something, but we are not close enough to hear. I turn my head to see I am right next to an alley. I happen to see Mae.
I tell Nakayla, “I'm going to do something right now. I'll meet up with you in a minute.”
“Alright. I will be up there with those boys.” Nakayla replies.
I turn and walk into the alley. Mae turns around and sees me. I wave and she does the same back.
“Hey, Kierra. How are you?”
“Hi. I'm good, actually. Are you alone?”
“Yeah, I am for once.”
I ask, “Is that a good thing?”
“I'm not sure. Kierra, can I ask you something?” Mae asks me.
“Of course. What do you need?”
“Well, since you are no longer allowed at the colony, what does not mean for the person who is supposed to take over?”
“You mean because I can no longer become the new leader of the Nobudees?”
Mae nods. I say, “Well, really nothing unless something happens to my father, since he caused me to leave. However, if he wants an heir, he can do that as long as there is someone else qualified to do such a thing. For example if he had a sibling or someone else in his family. Why?”
Mae says in a whisper, “I was hoping you would not say that, because that means Blake will be the future leader.”
“I mean, you have to be alright with it as well, but why Blake?”
“I'm the Nobudee leader’s sister. I have to go now. Thank you, Kierra.”
I am in a little shock as Mae turns and runs away. How did I not know she was his sister? I decide it does not matter. I turn to leave and go back to Nakayla. Suddenly I hear someone call out my name. I look back to see some one round the corner. I realize it is Ryan, one of the Nobudee boys. Just ignore him, Kierra. Walk away and maybe he will leave you alone. That is not the case.
I am walking back to Nakayla when he grabs my wrist saying, “Where are you going , Kierra?”
“Leave me alone.” I state.
“Oh, come on. Kierra, don't you forgive me?”
“What do you think? After everything that has happened, do you really think I have reason to forgive you?”
Ryan asks, “What is with the attitude, Kierra?”
I say, “Maybe I need to say it louder. Leave me alone!”
Suddenly, Cole comes up next to me. He asks, “Is everything alright Kierra?”
“Yes. Everything is fine.” I reply, even though I know he heard me talking to Ryan.
