News:
It's finally time!!!
As long as there are teenagers, there will be young-adult books, and the popular literary genre hasn't fallen out of favor with Hollywood.
The Harry Potter, Twilight and Hunger Games movies, as well as stand alones like The Fault in Our Stars, stoked the flames of YA fandom but also created adaptations that had a broader audience than just kids. This Friday, another novel-to-film has wrapped, The Maze Runner.
The film is lead by actors Thomas Sangster, Kaya Scodelario, Ki Hong Lee, Dexter Darden and, Hollywood sweetheart, Casey Holland and directed by Wes Ball.
Don't be surprised if film critics, wits that they are, pile on all sorts of pedestrian cliches in their descriptions of the first film in The, what we hope will happen, Maze Runner series.
The fact is the first entry in the sci-fi series based on the books by James Dashner will give fans of the book exactly what they're looking for. And there were plenty of fans, since the books sold out withen one hour of availability.
The film, like the book, is not subtle. Teenagers are living in between four walls that only have one exit which closes at night and fight for freedom. Get it? Director Wes Ball, who has helmed the movie, is similarly unsubtle in his love of imaginatively rendered CGI landscapes, big and noisy action scenes and narrow, last-nanosecond escapes. Left behind by necessity is character development, meaning characters an audience actually cares about.
The film is more than two hours long which means nobody feels shortchanged and there's, spoiler alert, a relatively happy conclusion so everybody goes home happy.
All actors are relatively happy about how it turned out, especially young Casey, 15, who is the youngest of the cast. "I love how it turned out, i can't believe we did it. I can't wait for the fans to see it and I hope we gave them what they wanted."

Casey POV:
"And go."
I began to move towards the photographer slowly with a scared look on my face. We were taking pictures for the movie.
"Alright, can Thomas Ki Hong and Dylan come in please?" He asked.
They came in and they set us up so I was held by Ki Hong bridal style and Thomas and Dylan were looking at me with worry.
"Alright. You boys can go, kaya." he called.
Myself and kaya got set up to be back to back and looking into the distance.
"And turn." he called and we shot towards him.
"nice job guys. Now the guys can come in and then we will need a picture with Wes."
We nodded and walked off. we soon came back for photographs with Wes. We could do whatever so i jumped onto Dylans back causing us both to laugh, Thomas Ki Hong and will were looking into the distance, Kaya was smiling while looking at me and Dylan while Wes just stood there with his hands crossed. Once done I went to get changed before making my way to the rooms. It was our last night here and then I was flying back with Thomas because he was heading back to England as well.
