💙Sunflowers💛

Lafayette paced the stone pathway, of the Schuyler estate, admiring the view. It was beautiful to him, and he admired everything about America's beauty; including Major Philip Schuyler's lovely home in Albany.

Lafayette had been instructed by General Washington, to assist his fellow young, aide-de-camp, Colonel Alexander Hamilton, on a visit to Schuyler's estate, to confide with him about the Continental Army's plan of attack on the Redcoats. After all, the end of the war was not that far away, and was drawing nigh. Anyone could see that much. And Lafayette was doing his best, to take part. He worked so hard to even arrive in the colonies, and he wasn't wasting an opportunity presented. He's already been ranked Major General, for approximately three years, after all.

The pathway reached an endpoint, with no further trail. Lafayette, decided to turn around, and continue to pace the other way. However, that was disrupted by the sound of soft singing, coming from a deeper part of the garden.

Following the voice, Lafayette discovered quite a sight to behold. A young girl, roughly the same age as himself, crouched beside a field of fully-bloomed, yellow flowers. He was astounded by the sight, and quite taken aback by the girl's magestic singing voice. He swore that he recognized her from somewhere. Perhaps, she was one of Schuyler's revered daughters?

"Bonjour, Mademoiselle Schuyler," Lafayette spoke up, once the girl had stopped singing. She jumped in surprise, twirling around to face the Frenchman. "Pardon me, for eh, intruding. I heard you singing, and stumbled upon your fair self. You will forgive my intrusion, non?"

"Oh! Major General! Quelle surprise," the young maiden chuckled, standing up, with a basket full of the yellow flowers- the colour matching her gown. "I just wasn't aware that you had arrived. Have you brought your company?"

"Mademoiselle must mean mon ami, Hamilton, does she not?" He approached the young girl cautiously, observing the field in a more up-close view. "Oui, Colonel Hamilton is conversing with Schuyler inside. What is Mademoiselle doing out here by her lonesome?"

The girl giggled some more, lifting the flowers from her basket. In doing so, it had been revealed that the stems were wound together, forming a shape, like a crown. She held it out to Lafayette, who in turn, admired it in complete awe. How could someone create a beautiful creation ike that, with just the use of garden flowers? Americans sure are amazing, Lafayette thought, as he smiled at the sight before him.

"I was just amusing myself, by making a crown of flowers. Daddy is working with Colonel Hamilton, Mother is giving lessons to the boys, and my older sisters are out at the moment. So, I busied myself in the garden. Care to join me, Major General? That is, if you aren't too busy." The girl smiled up at him, before reaching down, and plucking a few flowers. She paused, before bopping the side of her head slightly with her hand. "Oh silly me, I forgot to have introduced myself. I beg your pardon." She tucked away some flowers in her wicker basket, and placed the crown upon her own head, before reaching out a hand. "Margarita Schuyler. Third daughter of renowned Major General Philip Schuyler. But, preferably refer to me as just, 'Peggy'."

"Beau nom, Mademoiselle," Lafayette smiled back at her, bowing, and taking her hand in his. Respectively, he kissed it gently, before doing the same on both sides of her cheeks. The young girl, Peggy's, cheeks flushed up red, as she giggled in embarrassment. "The name is Marie‑Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette." Peggy stared, dumbfound, struggling to recall the Frenchman's extensive name. Lafayette noticed, and chuckled a little. "But, preferably refer to me as just, 'Lafayette'," he said, parroting Peggy's previous statement.
