I'm sorry I haven't been updating and I'm sorry if the story is boring so far, but I promise that it's gonna be fricking awesome. Oh and I'm sorry that I didn't put any media in this chapter because I'm not going to put media on every single chapter. Sorry, but yeah....

Chapter 15 -Family at the airport: (Alec's P.O.V.)

On the drive to the airport, Melanie and Gran had complete control of the music. It turns out that they had the same taste in music so.....ya. You can imagine. I mean, I like some of the same music.

Our drive consisted of Luke Bryan, Dierks Bentley, Kip Moore, Christina Aguilera, Katy Perry, along with many other country and pop singers.

One song in particular, me and Gran couldn't match pitch with the song so we just danced and tapped our feet to the song. Did I mention how Mel was belting out the song like she wrote it? I forgot? Well, she was....and boy was she talented.

"Shake it for the youngbirds sitting in the honkeytonks, for the red necks rockin' till the break of dawn, for the DJ spinning that country song. Come on, come on, come on...." she sang the words of 'Country Girl (Shake it for me) by Luke Bryan. That woman has some chords on her. Dang.

Her voice explains her so fully. She's not an alto, but not a soprano either. She can make her voice go either way. It explains her hardships and miseries with the tiniest bit of something that I can not even describe, even if I tried. It makes me feel something in the pit of my stomach. Something that's been making itself known whenever she's around.

"Alec! Woo-hoo!" 'snap snap'. I was brought out of my thoughts when someone snapped their fingers in my face. Gran.

"We're here hun," she said once the glaze left my eyes and I returned to reality. She surprisingly gave me a knowing look. I wonder about that woman's knowledge sometimes. Oh well, I'll let it slide....this time.

I hate myself now, I spent the ride ogling instead of actually spending as much time with them before I turn miserable from this sudden predicament.

We entered the airport and I waited to board my flight. As I sat there, I felt some eyes on me. I looked around me and saw no one. I looked down and seen a little girl staring at me.

Once she knew I had her attention, she looked at over at Melanie who was sitting with my Gran and then back at me trying to get my ticket confirmed.

"You're girlfriend is very pretty. You two look great together," the girl said, I swear that this child was just around the age of 9, 10 would be iffy.

I'm sorry, but I just had to laugh.

"Why thank you little one, but can I tell you a secret?" I asked, still laughing.

"But I don't know you," she said.

"Smart girl, your mother must have taught you well now, didn't she? Well, here is the secret, she isn't my girlfriend" I stated, proud that at least one child in this god forsaken land might not get kidnapped. She technically didn't just come up to me, she was in line.I wonder where her guardian is.

"I don't have a mom and I'm sorry for mistaking that woman for your girlfriend," she said with the saddest look in the world on her face. I couldn't tell if she was sad because she didn't have a mom or the fact that she made a mistake. Maybe both.

"It's alright and I'm sorry, where is your guardian?" I asked, filled with guilt for saying such stupid things to someone I don't know.

"I dont have one of those either, I came here to buy a ticket to Texas," she said.

"My name is Alec Johnson," I said.

"Why did you tell me your name when you don't know me?" she asked, she had a look on her face that looked like recognition. I'm going to assume that she thinks that she knows me, there are a lot of Johnsons.

"So that I can get to know you," I said. I don't know what intentions I had, but she looked familiar.

"Okay, well....my name is Evie Bleckers," she said, shyly.

Someone tapped my shoulder. I turned around and grabbed my stuff. "Have a nice flight sir," the clerk said sweetly.

I turned around and looked at Erie. I smiled at her.

"How old are you Evie?" I asked.

"Eleven sir," she said,"I've been told many time that I look like I'm years younger."

"How old are you?" she asked me in return.

"Eighteen," I said, looking down at her.

I led her over to my Gran and Melanie that had walked the short ways to the food court.

"Gran, Mel, this is Evie," I said, nudging Evie's shoulder.

  "Um...hi," she said, again shyly.

I leaned down to her ear and whispered,"Just a yes or no question Evie, do you have a home?" I know it was a bit harsh, but necessary for my mind. My mind which was working on its own.

"I ran away from the orphanage," she said out loud.

I heard Melanie take in a hard breath. She walked over to the little girl and knelt in front of her. She took her hands in hers as I finally caught up with my mind. Ooohhh.....the connection. Mel and Evie, similar pasts. Both ran from the orphanage.

I could see the tears in Melanie's eyes as she spoke softly to the girl. "How old are you?"

  "Eleven," Evie answered.

She looked at me as she said ," she is younger than what I was when I ran.

For some reason, Gran spoke up this time, "We'll speak more about it at home, alright hun?"

  "Home?" Evie asked.

"Yes, just tell us which orphanage that you ran from and we will talk about getting you a home with us and about getting to know you, alright? I will persuade my husband," she stated.

I stood there with my jaw on the floor (metiphorically) along with Evie as Melanie ran at Gran and crushed her into a hug. I barely heard her little 'Thank you'

I knelt in front of Evie.

"Looks like you gained a family at an airport," I said with a smile.
