The giant leads us to the boats which we ride to Hogwarts. Once there we are all compiled together walk through the halls and onto the stairs where we meet an older lady, who details the what lies next on our journey tonight. Of course I read up on the process and right now only had one thing in mind. My chosen house. Gryffindor was my second choice, after Ravenclaw. Slytherin had too mch off a reputation for the production of bad wizards for me to even dream about being chosen for that house. Then their was the too soft Hufflepuff. I mean no offense only that Hufflepuff would not suit me as a developing witch. Hufflepuff would be perfect for my new friend, Neville.

With everything running through my mind I almost missed the disruption of Harry, Wealsey and the blonde I still remained upset with. He and Weasley apparently knew each other or at least of each other. Unfortnately for Harry that meant he had to chose, which was a lose-lose situation. I mean had to decide being friends with nobbish arse or the dump red head. Poor Harry was all I thought as he chose Ron over the blonde, who I now no as Draco Malfoy. Professor Mcgonagall returns and guided us all into the large cafeteria with a bewitched ceiling. I explained aloud to myself how I read about the enchanted ceiling, not realizing no one was listening to me. I do that sometimes.

The sorting begins and I block out everyone expect the people I remember. I see the girl who defended Draco on the train. "Daphne Greengrass." She plants a wicked grin on her face as the sorting hat calls out Slytherin. Soon Neville's name is called and to my surprise he is placed into Gryffindor. Two girls are called then Ron. "Gryffindor". No surprise there I imagine as the entire Gryffindor table cheers on their new housemate. Ron is greeted by two older boys who happen to resemble him to the fullest. No doubt more Weasleys. I turn my attention back to the sorting cermony when I hear Draco's named called. The hat doesn't even reach the boy's head before "Slytherin" is chanted out. They welcome him with a cheer as he sits next to Daphne.
A girl named Susan is called and sorted into Hufflepuff, then I hear my name. "Hermione Granger."

I feel like a thousand rocks are on my shoulders as i appoach the stool. Sitting down I begin to comtemplate all the reasons I should be placed in Ravenclaw. The hat then strikes up a conversation with me. "You favor Ravenclaw, Aye? But there's something much more inside than you know. Not just booksmart. You have a potential for greatness with a cunning mind like your own." That one word and I knew the hat meant Slytherin. "No please, anywhere but there." The hat continues to probe my mind. "But you have so much more to unlock about yourself and only one place to get the answers better be...Slytherin!"

My heart stops as the truth dawns upon me. My secret for now: that I am the first muggleborn to be sorted into Slytherin. What would they do if they ever found out. No doubt they will ask about by blood status. That's all they cared about in Slytherin, blood status and power. I was so encased in my thoughts I did not even see that the students at the Slytherins table were cheering me on as I walked up to them. Seeing an open spot by the the boy who sat with Draco on the train, Blaise Zabini, I took it as my own. He, along with Draco, smirked at me. "Look who's one of the nobs now?" I ignore Draco's antics and greet the older student on the other side of Blaise.

After a few introductions, we all watched as Harry was sorted into Gryffindor and then the few last first years were sorted and the Sorting cermony concluded. And so plans of how to hide by parentage began.
