Safely locked in her room, Vito now had her attention on me. I had silently secured myself on her bed and watched her as she went from one corner of the room to another searching for her PJs and 'getting ready' for bed as she put it. I silently wished she would keep pacing till morning.

"So now cure me" she said finally settling down cross legged in front of me on the bed.

Here goes. Remember, leave out Rachel.

"So..." I started not knowing where to begin.

"If you're wondering where to begin, summer break is a good start." she said.

I was shocked and I'm sure she saw it by the way my eyes almost popped out and my jaw dropped.

"You... You know?" I asked still not over my shock.

"I just know that something happened over summer and then you just changed." she shrugged.

I eased a little and began,
"okay... So... "

"You know I'll catch you if you lie so you better spill it all." she said.

"It's nothing so serious you know, just petty teenage issues..."

"Just spill it Grace" she sounded calm and for some reason, she had a huge grin on her face.

"So the thing is... Tirencheatedonmeandwe'reover"
I blurted out in a breath.

Her grin turned into a fixed line with arched eyebrows which turned into wide eyed shock and settled on pure anger.

"What!?  He did what? How? When?" she threw questions at me without even giving me a chance to answer.

"Okay okay! Hold on! One at a time. Let me explain" I tried telling her after which she settled down still red with anger.

"You look like you're the one he cheated on" I nudged her shoulder attempting to lighten the mood to which I received a growl.

"Okay! So... It's not a big deal and I'm over it. I found out during summer when he started ignoring me so I asked him one day and he was honest enough not to deny it. We ended on good terms and we're friends now so everything is fine" I said

When will you stop lying?

"Why didn't you tell me?" she asked, the hurt clearly ringing in her voice making me feel guilty.

"I'm sorry... It wasn't such a big deal anyway and..."

"And? What? You thought I would lash out at him didn't you? I'll be damned if I don't. How could he? Knowing how much you were into him" she said cutting me off the anger rising again.

"Oh com'on  Vito! It was months ago and besides, we only have a week left for classes and then we won't be seeing each other for months so let's just end the semester in good terms." I pleaded.

I knew she wouldn't listen. She is as strong headed and stubborn as she is kind and generous. An equal inheritance of her mom and dad, kind and generous being from her father. She stood up from the bed and made her way to her study table opening the drawer and taking out a pink notebook, she looked at me.

"Remember in sixth grade how you ran after that senior and punched him in the face when he took my diary and ran away? You stood up for me even to the extend of confronting a senior. I will never forget that day, Grace. You were the bravest girl I knew but what happened to that girl?" she took me by surprise because I was ready to put up a very good opposition argument about how she should leave Tiren alone and not do anything about it.

"Well... I did get detention for a week after that..."

"That's not my point, Grace" she was getting annoyed.

Shut up Grace.

"You can't wallow in self-pity you know, you're not that girl I won't do anything because it's not even worth it. You know you deserve better right?"

I knew exactly what she meant we had always been the ones to stand up and voice out opinions. She is still the same but I was the chameleon.

"Okay... I told you I'm totally over it. Moreover, I'm gonna marry you, remember?" I winked at her.

"Eww!  Grace!! I told you not to do that. I hate you!" she said as she placed her diary back in its place.

"I love you too, honey" I replied.

This is going better than expected given the fact that I had imagined the worst case scenario where she caught my lies and strangle me until I tell the whole truth. Maybe there's something changing in her too. Maybe we're both maturing. I started to mentally pat myself until something soft hit my face with such force that I rolled off the same bed for the second time in one day. I looked up from the floor to see a grinning Ato with a pillow.

"Oh this is so on!" I said forming an evil grin.

Despite being eighteen, we still loved pillow fights and we went on until we were exhausted. This is what I liked about our friendship. We could talk serious and still change the mood in an instant. We would fight over silly things and stop talking for sometime but we could never be mad at each other for too long. Before even an hour we would be apologising and sometimes cry together and reconcile in no time.

"Hey Grace?" she called as we lay on her bed exhausted and out of breath.

"Yeah?"

"I missed you. Thanks for coming over and for telling me" she said still looking at the ceiling.

"I missed you too."

"And just so you know, he's a jerk and we know that karma's a bitch so don't you worry."

"hmm... "

"Do you know who the girl is?" she asked after a moment of silence.

"Nope" I replied almost immediately popping the 'p'.

"okay" she said after another pause. Something in her voice told me she didn't believe me but I let it slip. Instead, I turned to face her and grinned.

"So, how about the marriage proposal?" I asked wiggling my eyebrows.

"Eww Grace!!" she pushed me and I landed on the floor. Again. I growled and massaged my buttocks as she laughed her head off.

So much for lightening the mood.
