🎵She lives in a fairytale... 🎼
I woke up with the alarm ringing in my ears just to snooze it and go back to sleep again. After God knows how many snoozes, I finally wake up to a good lecture about time management from mom.
What a way to start the day.
The morning at home went by in a haze because I was too excited about the day being the last of college. Getting to college was no more a chore and it felt like it took just a minute to reach the campus from home. I was greeted by Vito and Rachel and we walked to class together.
"Shall we do something together with the boys after classes are over?" Rachel asked once we were seated. There is still ten minutes before class starts so we started discussing.
"I was gonna suggest the same thing!" Vito exclaimed.
"But what shall we do though?"
"I'm fine with whatever." I said.
"Of course you are. You're always fine with whatever." Vito scoffed and I replied with an eye roll.
I didn't like making decisions when we were in groups. Mostly because I don't want to waste my energy arguing or defending my choices and besides, I was honestly fine with whatever they decide as long as it doesn't include dancing or murder. We still hadn't come to a decision when my phone vibrated and so did Rachel's. I take out my phone and there was a message from Khumtsa.
Khumtsa- Hey sunshine! Wanna. skip class today? Yes? Great! Find a way to keep Vito from attending first class will ya? Thanks. We're in the canteen meet us there.
I look up from my phone to see Rachel already looking at me. Did we get the same message? I look at the time and there's five minutes left for the bell. I look at Rachel and see her doing the same thing. We look at Vito and back at each other.
"Uh... Guys?" Vito spoke up confused.
"I really need to use the washroom, can we go?" Rachel asked.
I look at her and she's giving me a look that seemed to be asking me to play along."There's just three minutes left Rach. Don't you always go alone?" Vito replied.
"I have to use the washroom too. Let's all go" I suddenly chimed in.
"Great! Then the two of you can go together."
"No!" Rachel and I say together.
"Whoa! It's not like I'm gonna do your business for you guys" Vito raised her hands in defence.
"Vito please...it won't take time." I pleaded with exaggeration.
"Okay fine! But if I miss this class you're both dead."
"Great!"
"Sure!" Rachel and I said in unison again.
I can blame it on Khumtsa.
Once inside the washroom, I stand there thinking about what to do. Rachel had already peed and was now standing in front of the mirror adjusting her hair.
"Did you come here to stand, Grace?" Vito asked with annoyance.
"Uh... No. Of course not! I wanted to umm... to... wash my hands...?"
"Are you asking me?" she eyed me suspiciously.
I shrugged and walked over to the basin to wash my hands making sure to take my own sweet time.
"Faster guys! The bell is about to go..." Vito didn't get to finish her sentence as she was interrupted by the bell.
"Great! Now we're late" Vito huffed as she pulled Rachel and I by the hand and dragged us out of the washroom.
"wait! I think I need to pee..." I said.
Vito shot up to look at me, "You think!?"
*************
"Why do you have to eat? It's too early!" Vito complained the whole way to the canteen.
"I gotta eat twice in the morning to keep you under control" I stated.
"Wha..." before she could finish, I cut her off the moment I caught sight of Khumtsa.
"Khum!"
"Ouch!" I hadn't realized that I was shouting right into Rachel's ears.
It's funny how I always zone her out of my surroundings so effortlessly these days. Don't look at me, she doesn't talk much anyway.
"Oh. Sorry I didn't see you there" I said without much emotions.
By now, Khumtsa and Tiren were standing in front of us. We hadn't been together like this in the same place for a long time and now that we are, for a moment, it's as if things are back to how it used to be. Like I had just woken up from a really bad dream. That is until Tiren walked over to stand beside Rachel and not me.
Of course, what did I expect.
Khumtsa raised a brow at me and I shook my head slightly. These thoughts will not ruin my day today.
"So! Now that we're all here, ready to have the best closing day?" Khumtsa asked rather excitedly.
"Wait, we are attending the next classes. It's just because Grace took a decade inside the washroom doing God knows what business that we missed the first class." Vito said.
"Come on pretty bird, it's just one day. The Last Day. Loosen up! One day can't hurt" Khumtsa reasoned.
"No! Last days are the most important." Vito was standing her ground.
We looked at each other sending silent understanding nods and started speaking.
"But we'll be away for a long time."
"And exam's over too."
"Who knows when we'll meet. "
"I'm asking today as an early Christmas gift."
"We might not see another day."
At the last sentence all of us stopped and looked at Rachel. Did she really say that? She has been the quiet girl with a considerable amount of optimism and in all the pursuing we're doing, the one reason she could contribute was about death?
"Whoa, are you alright?" Khumtsa asked
"Okay fine! I'll skip class." Vito finally agreed.
"But what do you have in mind?" Tiren asked.
"You'll see. None of us will forget this day." Khumtsa replied with a rather sly grin.
One thing we've all learnt over the years is that Khumtsa is a wild and daring Homo sapient. His normal day is our little more than normal adventurous day and his unforgettable fun day can as well be imagined as our nearly escaped prison and cheated death kind of day.
God help us.
