Chapter Four: My Boyfriend’s Crush

“Tyler Steele I think this is the beginning to a beautiful friendship.” I gave him a grin and watched as he grinned back.

“Tyler, hurry up!” I yelled through my open car window. It had been a week since my party. Tyler and I were closer than ever. “Hurry, walk a little faster grandma!”

“Hold on Speedy Gonzalez!” he yelled as he hopped into the car seat next to me. “Girl you know how long it takes me to do my hair.” He ran his fingers through his wavy mess.

“We are late, Miss Sassy Pants.” I rolled my eyes and floored the gas pedal.

Hearing Tyler complain was a daily ritual now. He would complain about everything from his neighbors voice, which was quite annoying, to the way the road bends. I learned to shut him out, especially in the car, where his voice echoed louder than ever.

As soon as the car was parked we grabbed our bags and ran inside the school with Tyler in tow. After a couple changes here and there Tyler and I had every class together. If this ‘best friend’ thing was going to happen certain changes were mandatory. We even had some classes with Mindy and Justin.

We shoved the wooden door open with a bang, interrupting the teacher’s lesson. We stopped walking by the door and began to chuckle. She sighed.

“Mr. Steele and Miss. Grace, it’s nice of you to join us a half hour late. Perhaps you would love to join me for a half hour after school?” I glared at Tyler. “Go to the back of the classroom.” It almost felt as if we were being banished from the classroom. She cleared her throat and continued to teach.

I shoved Tyler and burst into fits of laughter as we made our way to the back. Even though Tyler lived five minutes away we managed to be late every single day.

At lunch we sat with Justin and Mindy. Every time all four of us were together Justin could not keep his hands off of Mindy. That only made Tyler jealous, so he would hold me tighter. When Tyler touches me Justin gets angered and furthers his flirting with Mindy. It was a messed up chain reaction. None of us would admit to the problem at hand.

“So did you guys hear the haunted circus is in town? I really want to go, but Ty is too scared.” I pouted.

“I could go. I-I mean Mindy and I could join you two.” Justin looked down, embarrassed.

“It’s a double date then!” I chuckled. Tyler leaned closer to me and whispered a quick thanks into my ear. “Yes you have to join us silly.” I kissed his cheek and stood up. “I want some pudding,” I looked around the table. “Does anyone want anything?”

“I would like a can of diet soda and some pudding.” Mindy offered.

“I’ll get it.” Justin stood in one swift movement and began to walk to the concession store. His shoulders looked tense. I wanted to have a real conversation with him. No more fights.

“Do you want anything?” I asked Tyler.

“You know,” he tried to wink seductively, which failed completely. I smacked his arm and walked towards Justin.

I walked into the small shop. I grabbed a pudding cup and M&M’s, Tyler’s favorite candy. Justin was right behind me. I smiled and handed him some vanilla pudding, Mindy’s favorite. He clenched his fist.

“I know what my girlfriends favorite pudding is.” He hissed. I glared at him.

“What is your problem?” I snarled.
