Chapter Twenty-One

Many years later...

A couple months after Jason's death Libby had figured out a cure for the virus. We tested it by dragging in a Gone and giving him the cure and he healed within five hours and was completely cured. But he was not stable whatsoever, I mean, he remembered everything he did and he said he split a family up by eating the husband and one child, leaving only the wife and the other child. But after talking to him he seemed to be better and able to live with what he's done since he knows it's curable.

Libby then explained to me about when they took over the government. Libby's whole group basically kidnapped the people running the government who were still left and Libby was luckily in charge of executing them. She took them in the basement of the Sanctuary, I never knew the Sanctuary contained a basement, and kept them alive just in case. I couldn't think of her "just in case" then, but the world is so lucky that she didn't kill them. She said that she crept down there once a day to feed them and replenish their water supply and catch them up on what's happening. It turns out Libby was never insane, she was just insanely smart. She had her crazy moments, but without her I wouldn't be where I am now. We went down to the government and they had a plane and we had our way to distribute the cure from the plane. So we wondered for a few days until we found the plane, safe and sound. That's the main thing Libby's group didn't take from the government, their planes. I'll never know why and I will never care.

We all got up on that plane and had made the cure a liquid and a gas so we released the gas from a level not too high from the ground on the plane. We then even targeted a few people and flew until the plane was almost out of gas. We didn't get all that far around the world, but the U.S is in much better shape. That then brings me to here and know, to our community.

Libby, the government people, and I all started to build up fences around this one area. We kept this place somewhat safe and people would come to the fences confused on how they turned back to their original human form and beg to be let in. We gave people a home, a sanctuary. This sanctuary is much, much better than the last one. Soon enough we built the resemblance of a community and a small village, we get more and more people everyday. Some people come and learn we have the cure and they only want to take it and leave, begin to spread the cure around the rest of the world. We give them as much as we can without giving too much and then make some more.

We can't build houses as fast as we get people, so people share houses and the whole community is like a family. We all have different jobs and different tasks to conquer and take care of throughout the day. We share clothes and and Libby packed some clothes from the Sanctuary and packed many things to live off of, but it's not enough for a small village. We learn to share and reuse. The only main issue is food, we have gatherers and hunters. The gatherers are doing fine, except winter is a hard time, and the hunters aren't bringing in enough food to satisfy. Once the community grows hopefully things get easier. I do have a strong feeling that Libby and I have faced the worst of it already.

The only personal issue is Jason. It's been nearly five or six years and I still wake up screaming from nightmares of his death. I loved him so much and I don't know if I will ever except his death, but I must live with it.

I was always used to Jason being right at my side when I woke from a nightmare, but now, since Libby and I are the only ones who have their own house, or cabin, I wake up having to comfort myself and talk myself through the pain and torture. I miss him everyday and every time I miss him I remember his death. I especially remember his last words, I love you, too, beautiful.

I miss that. Being called beautiful.

It's morning now and I just finished up breakfast, which was various fruits and an egg we got from our small animal section. We've found various animals out in the world and use them to our advantage. I walk to the gates Libby and I have built and I've decided to take the liberty of searching the fences for Lainey while she gets over her mental breakdown. Lainey is a girl in our village who is unable to her job at this time and it's something we've got to deal with, people just need to breakdown sometimes, it's what makes them stronger in the end.
