Alex's P.O.V

The small boy in my arms trembled as I jogged back to the car, desperate to get away from the scene that I just witnessed.

He was almost captured. Echo was almost taken.

I set him on the bed of the truck and tugged his sleeves up, causing him to flinch. He arms were already turning purple, and he had a small gash along one of his wrists. I knew it wasn't from the two people inside. My heart ached. I knew exactly what that mark was from, but I said nothing.

The silence must have gotten to him, so he spoke in a small voice.

"I'm sorry," Nothing else, that's all he said. I looked up at the sky, towards the setting sun, and remained quiet.

"I'm sorry." he said, his voice harder this time. Shaking my head, I turned towards him, towards his glassy blue eyes. Another uncommon trait.

Blue was odd, brown and green were what you typically saw. The crystal orbs stared at me, into my soul, it seemed, begging me to except his apology. He needed the reassurance.

"It's ok." I placed my thumb on his cheekbone and wiped a tear that trickled down the pink skin. More came and small hiccups left his mouth. Pulling him into my chest, I leaned into his ear. "We need to leave." I spoke in a calm voice, but the message was urgent.

Echo gave a small nod and went to slide off the truck, but I hooked my arms under his knees and picked him up. He leaned into my shoulder, knowing I didn't intend on putting him down.

"I got some basics to eat before I got to you. They're in the back if you're hungry." He responded with a nod, but I guessed he wasn't in the mood to talk so I left it.

Placing him in his seat, I buckled him as he closed his eyes and rested him head. He drove me insane sometimes, without even knowing it. I grabbed the med kit from my back pack and pulled out two ice packs before cracking them and placing one on each of Echo's arms. He shivered and tried to move them, but I held them down as he tried to push them away.

"They'll help with swelling and stop the bruising. Please?" I asked, not wanting his arms to get worse. He mumbled an 'Ok' and I put the packs back in place, continuing over to my side of the cab and hopping in.

Reaching into the center consul, I grabbed some Advil and shook Echo's shoulder. He looked at me, seeming incredibly drowsy.

"Take this. It'll help with the pain." He sighed and put his hand out, allowing me to place the pill and a bottle of water in his palm. I watched him as he placed it in his mouth, gulping the water and swallowing.

"Good boy." The innocent comment made him blush, so I chuckled and put the keys in the ignition, turning on the vehicle. I pulled out of the parking lot, away from judging eyes and greedy people.

We drove down an unknown road, who knew what would happen next?

How'd you like the book? I loved writing it and I can't believe it's already over!

That was a joke please don't hate me I'm sorry. The story is just getting started.
