Amy's POV

"You're keeping it?" I asked. We were sitting crossed legged under the oak tree and Poppy had decided to keep the cute little teacup piglet. "What are you going to name her?" Keon asked. I breeze carried past. "That's the tough part." She Poppy groaned and rolled over on the forest floor. The piglet danced around her and tilted her head.

"What about 'Hamlet'" I suggested in a joking manner. Keon snorted. "When Hell freezes over!" Poppy cried bolting upright, "She's too adorable to be called that." I snickered.

Poppy stared intently at the brown and black pig who was staring back. "I'll name you Cocoa!" She scooped up Cocoa who squawked indignantly and wiggled her into her hoodie pocket.

"Your pig just squawked, are you aware of this?" I pointed out. Poppy stood up. "She's just confused. Anyways I'm heading home. Bye you two." She waved. I parroted the motion back at her. "See you later!" I called out to her. The sun was still in the sky, but I wanted to get home as well, not just to get there before my family, but before dusk fell and night cast a dark, starry blanket on the town. I stood up and brushed myself off, picking a few leaves that clung to my clothes and hair. I picked out a leaf my hair and crumpled it. The pieces filtered to the ground.

"I'd better get going as well." Kicking a rock, I turned to Keon. "See you when I see you." He passed me a smile that made my stomach flip. I gave back a small smile and made my way back to the crooked building.

                                              39=//=//=//=//=//=//=

By the time the fairly new car that belonged to my family pulled up into the driveway I had closed my window, shut the lock on it and was now sitting on the window's ledge. The one that was once broken. Apperently someone had come while we where gone to the Fair and I stumbled upon the man while climbing into the window that faced the alleyway.

-Back up 30 minuets-

Gripping the window's edge I hauled myself up inside only to find a burly man with a mass of curly brown hair on his head, brown overalls that held some logo on the back inside already. He was humming chipperly.

"What are you doing, how did you get in here?!" I screetched. The man turned, not at all surprised, "Oh, I let myself in! Strangest thing lass, the front door was locked!" He chuckled. "I got a call to fix your window, heard it was broken." The man smiled, turned to continue working then suddenly, as if remembering something, "Oh you might need a new lock too."

"Sir, generally when the front door is locked, and nobody answers you don't BREAK IN! YOU EITHER CALL THEM OR COME BACK LATER!"

He looked puzzled as if wondering 'why on earth is this crazy child yelling at me? I only broke into her house and room? No big deal' The curly-haired man nodded and gave a warm smile. "Oh I know but the lady who called seemed so adamant on getting it fixed, I didn't think it seemed appropriate to come back later. Besides it's going to rain soon." His dark blue eyes shifted to outside the yawing of window, but the expanse of blue sky was empty of clouds.

I sat down crossed-legged on my floor and rugged my temples. "All righty then. I'll leave you to your work." Sighing I got up again and reached for a book, "And I guess I'll awkwardly just read."

"OK then lass, I'm almost down anyways, so I'll soon be out of your hair." He went back to humming his chipper tune.

Now I sat here on my new window's ledge watching out while reading my book. It was boring, the book was anyways, when the first flash of lightning came. Turns out the man was right, clouds had filled the sky, white and fluffy like sheep in a pasture at first, then they grew heavy, dark and ominous. Rain threatened to spill over and it did just that. It poured fat drops of precipitation as the car pulled into the driveway and my family piled out and hurried inside to avoid the rain.

I leaned farther against the window to watch them as another crackle of lightning lit up the sky followed a few seconds after by a boom of thunder.

Being bored I got up and placed my book on my desk and turned on the small old, box television in my room. The News played. A news reporter in a snappy red dress was sitting in front of the camera, her hands were folded, and her white teeth flashed in the florescent lights of the room she was in. She began to speak;

"Hello, and welcome back! You've probably all heard the exciting news that our very own President Andrew Keragold is coming here to Miaskoa." In an undertone she added. "The only real worthy news I've had in a long, long time." Her smile never faltered

"But tragically on the border of our neighboring town of Aerolalia two bodies have been found. Now Aerolalia is miles away and it's a miracle that they were found but sadly only one of these poor souls could have been saved." She shook her head in a tragic manner as the seen cut to a distant road where three cops stood. In the background an ambulance could be seen; the vehicle abruptly made a U-turn and drove away.

The scene cut back to the pretty news anchor with her pretty white smile. I grabbed the TV remote and turned it off before she could speak again. Sighing I bounced on bed and stared up at the ceiling. The rain hadn't stopped, and I could hear it still pounding away outside. My phone without warning rang and I jumped up. The ringtone told me it was Poppy who was calling and a reached into my back pocket to answer it.

"Since there's still no school tomorrow I was wondering if you wanted to come over to hang with me?" Her voice reached me. I could her the clash of metal pots in the background. "Are you doing dishes while calling me." I asked. "Yeah, but that's not the point. Can you come over? We can go outside." She whined. "What if it's still raining?" I pointed out to her. "It won't rain over night!" She said exasperated. "Ok fine, only if I can see Cocoa first." She groaned on the other end of the phone then for some reason fell silent.

"Hey Poppy, you still there?" I laid down on my bed. "Yeah, can I ask you a question?" Her voice was quiet. "Sure, you can ask me anything." I replied not quite sure where this came from. "Everyone talks about monsters and demons and blames all these murders on demons and all that but... Have you actually even seen a demon?"

"Where did that question come up from?" The clatter of washing dishes quieted. "Oh nowhere, just a thought." She sighed. "Umm... I guess no... to answer your question. Now are you going to cheer up by tomorrow?" At this her voice gained her usually cheeriness, "Yeah of course! I'll see you then!" She hung up. I brought the phone away from my ear and held it above me.

                  What's amiss with Poppy. That wasn't like her at all to go all quiet. What was with that query?

I put my phone over on the nightstand and rolled over. The rain still slashed at the windows and a fit of lightning and thunder illuminated the sky that rolled with dark charcoal grey clouds. I rolled under my covers and listened to the storm outside; as I fell asleep.
