Amy's POV-
My landing was anything but graceful; I crashed into the dumpster below. Which thankfully was open, and I didn't break any bones, unfortunately I landed in on a trash bag that couldn't handle the impact and it busted open spilling garbage everywhere.
I didn't let it hamper me, shaking off a banana peel, leaking soda and other trash that decided to stick to my fur, I jumped out of the dumpster and skipped into the alley where rats skittered and squeaked at my approach. I hissed and snapped at them when they got to close for comfort.
I didn't know where to go, or who to go to, this never had happened to me before. I was still praying inside that it was all a dream. But a part of me secretly knew it was not, I didn't know how to change back either, was it like the Wizard of Oz? Could I just tap my paws three times and I could morph back? I paced around in the dark alley before deciding I'd through caution to the wind and just walk out into the sidewalks.
It was still day light, people were still out, maybe I could wander around until I found someone I recognized I just followed them? Gertrude did say she would be in the meadow, but she wouldn't know what to do....
I sat down miserably and sulked. The rats got more brazen and approached with new found vigor smelling apparently that their prey had given up, until one of them sunk tiny sharp teeth into my tail. I roared in pain and fury flinging it up which sent the vermin smacking into the cement wall with a shriek. I bounded out of the narrow alleyway where people gasped and screamed in surprise.
My tail was bleeding and it smarted painfully. Pushing the stinging of my injury to the back of my head I crossed into the asphalt street. The material burned my paws it was hot from the sun and made me temporarily forget that there were cars on the road. The load honking of one brought it back and I glanced up to see a silver truck screech and swerve off onto the side of the road
My heart was thudding in my chest and tail tuck between my legs. I just forced myself to calmly walk forward as a pissed off male driver climbed out of the truck.
Just keep walking.... Don't think about the accident you almost caused....
"Fucking beast!" The man shouted. Steam must have been puffing from his ears, but I didn't turn to look back. I crept back into another alley where I hoped he wouldn't, or anyone, would not follow me. I laid down there and tucked in my bleeding tail; the adrenaline from the road had worn off and the hopelessness and misery had returned, or maybe they hadn't left at all and had always been there, but the excitement had just covered them up.
I let out a sigh and fixed my gaze on the shoots of green grass growing between the cracks of the sidewalk and spaces where it could find room to flourish. The rumble of an engine reached my ears, but I assumed it was another vehicle passing down the road, so I disregarded it. When it stopped near by I passed it off again as a car pulling into one of the near by houses and a sense of homesickness washed over me.
I can't go home like this...
Then the sound of voice carried to me caused my ears to prick up and I took notice. "Yeah, pedestrians said it dashed around here. Ran into the road to. Nearly caused an accident" A male voice grunted.
"Thing could be crazy..."
"You have everything right?"
"Yep... Just hope it isn't able to bite through the gloves." The second voice laughed gruffly. A chill ran down my spine and I scrambled back onto four feet. Their footsteps were getting closer... They were talking about me! Edging closer to wall I prepared to run as soon as I saw them, they were Animal Control, I'd only seen them a few times but never were they after me.
