Amy's POV-
The red-eyed lady squished into the spot between Gertrude and I, after doing so she hugged me to her chest which I responded immediately by shoving her away. However, this didn't seem to deter the crazy lady because she did it again saying "You poor child how long have you just been by yourself?!"
I glared at Gertrude from beyond the woman's clothing but she only snickered and did nothing to help me.
Yeah, I really am by myself!
Growling, I readied my arms to push the elder woman away again but suddenly a searing heat burned from around her touch and shot up into my head where it exploded into hot-white pain. Black splotches slowly ate away at my vision as I fell into unconsciousness. The last thing I heard besides Gertrude mumbling something incomprehensible was the women who had let me fall limp say, "Don't worry, it doesn't last very long especially with you." before I blacked out completely.
*********
There was a dull burning in my head, but I remembered exactly where I was... The restaurant. My eyes felt glued shut- I couldn't open them- and although I could hear, everything was fuzzy and muffled like hearing it through a wall or a thick door.
I tried to move my hands but only one of my fingers was actually functional... The middle finger...
At least I can still flip people off... Maybe this is a sign that I need to do that.. This is my purpose!
Through the burning in my head and the fuzziness of my hearing, I tuned in on what was being said around be, even though I could only pick out a few words.
"Haven't... seen him..have...?" I could tell it was a question just by the inflection of the voice.
The response was muffled but the voice was from Gertrude. "The entire.. That's.. How long should..last?"
"Undetermined." That answer was clear and as the fog slowly cleared from my head a new voice made an appearance. It felt like a presence that slowly-like tar-covered the expanse of my mind; hissing out the fires of pain and leaving only silence to echo.
I panicked and tried to struggle but the voice hissed in my head, oddly familiar.
Stop panicking, you'll electrocute the place.
I froze in my spot, I couldn't open my eyes, I couldn't talk and I couldn't move except to flip everybody the birdie.
But just as more panic was setting in I tried to open my eyes again and found that they snapped wide open only to greeted with the view of the stormy grey painted wall of the restaurant. I could now flip everybody off with all of my fingers so with effort I focused my energy into movement and jerked my body to left. Apparently I focused a little too hard because I flung myself into the person next to me- which happened to be the women with white hair- who let out of yelp and collided into Gertrude who fell out of the booth and onto the carpet floor.
There were murmurs and gasps as those seated turned around to look at us. I wore a scowl while a quiet chuckle resonated through my head. Gertrude collected herself, cleared her throat and to the waiter who had come running to help her, said "Can we have a check please?"
By the time the bill was paid Gertrude had filled me in on who was sitting next to us. Her name was Kate and apparently she was my Aunt, a Demon as well that much was obvious, she came when a few weeks ago she felt a new 'string' appear in her web of mind links but it was hard to track because for one reason it kept disappearing and reappearing and the second reason was because whenever she tried to talk to whoever it belonged to she'd get fiercely shocked, however Kate knew it must've been a family member because it was outlined in a haze of white.
"What's that got to do with anything?" I butted in, I was being rude I knew but she toasted me from the inside out and put me to sleep.
"Your mindlink color has to do with your family color." Gertrude explained to me as we left the Grill and began to wander the streets.
Kate was still with us and continued her backstory, "I was still curious who this was so I tracked it down by the few words that slipped through when I was close to the mindlink, but it took a long time." She finally finished. "But Covens have to stick together!"
"What?" I turned to Gertrude who gladly explained; I swear she wanted to be a teacher. "A Coven is a group a Demons. It can also be called a Legion but that sounds like we're amassing an army so we prefer to use Coven."
Kate nodded. I had the feeling they both wanted to stuff as much knowledge into me as possible.
A Coven is your home, they are your family, by blood or not.
I was spooked when the voice sounded in my head, it came from everywhere, I was so caught up in trying to pinpoint where it came from that I didn't move out of the middle of the sidewalk and two humans shoved past me, muttering something about a speech. Something about the tone of their voices told me this was a prospect they weren't happy about.
"Do any of you know anything about something about a speech?"
Kate shook her head and I turned to look at Gertrude, "Gertrude have you heard anything while you sit in my room and contemplate your salty life?"
Gertrude narrowed her eyes into a glare. "Actually, your lovely president is giving a speech and apparently new things are going to be enforced and announced." Gertrude sniffed.
I wondered if we should go to and finally decided to say it out loud. "Should we go see it?"
I advise us to go.
Why is that?
See what these new regulations are...I didn't even realize I had talked back to the voice, until I thought back to what Gertrude had said about my Demon and something about a voice in my head... Was this my Demon?
Good thing you found out now, yes?
I could tell there was smiling tone but I ignored it and listened to the answers of Gertrude and Kate.
"Yeah, we should at least check it out."
"One, question though.....Where is it?" Kate asked.
