Epilogue

Laura stared at the sun through her round sunglasses. The weather had been nice the past few days, but then again, when wasn't it nice in Cali?

She looked at the park in front of her, trying to find a mop of bleach blonde hair anywhere, and soon she spotted not one, but two.

Ross was knelt down next to Brody, who was showing him proudly the flower he was holding between his tiny fingers. Laura smiled at the sigh of the two and then rubbed her stomach. Feeling weird those past days.

Brody started running toward his mother, his father on his heels, telling him to reduce his speed or he'll fall down and get hurt.

But the little kid was more interested in showing his mother the beautiful flower he had found.

When she saw him, she pulled her sunglasses out of her eyes and spread her arms to give him a bear hug, one of those he loved so much.

Brody jumped into her arms and Laura kissed her son's forehead like there was no tomorrow. Then she ran a hand through his blonde, soft hair. Ross ran a hand through his own.

"Mommy!" He exclaimed excitedly "Look what I found!"

Brody was a really eager boy, always put effort in what he did. He might have gotten all his dad's psychical characteristics, but he was smart and observant like his mom.

That's how he found he most beautiful flower in the park, for Laura.

"This is a really beautiful flower, sweetie" Laura said truthfully, holding the flower in the palm of her hand "Do you know what it's called?"

Brody shook his head quickly as Ross sat down next to Laura and put an arm around her shoulders.

"It's a lily"

The little boy looked confused for a moment. He didn't expect to hear that answer, although he didn't expect any answer in particular. It just sounded strange to his ears.

"But" he ducked his head to the side, still staring at the flower on his mom's hand "That's not a name for a flower"

Ross smiled and got closer to his son "And why not?" He asked.

Brody didn't hesitate "Because that's a girl name" he said matter-of-factly "One of my school friends is called Lily"

Laura smiled "But the name Lily can be for a flower or for a girl" she said, hoping her son would understand.

He was a little stubborn, just like Ross.

Brody didn't seem satisfied, but there were more important things to do. Such as playing in the park.

"He's always asking questions" Laura told Ross once the little boy left to play "I dont know where he got that from"

Ross chuckled and she gave him a look "Don't you?" he smirked "You do that all the time"

"Wha- no I don't" she put her sunglasses back on "Why would you think so? What's wrong with you?"

"You're doing it!" Ross laughed just to get a roll of eyes from Laura.

"Brody is just like you, don't try to hide the truth" she said.

"Maybe physically" Ross pointed out "But his way of being is just like yours"

Laura had to admit that, but not out loud. No more stroking-Ross's-ego for a while.

"He may be like me, but he's also really stubborn" she said "Like you"

Laura pointed between Ross's eyes and he laughed "Whatever you say"

She put a hand on her stomach and rubbed it slowly. That caught his eye "How are you doing?" He asked her, choosing the words carefully, as if he was scared she would hurt him.

"Fine, by now" Laura sighed "Let's talk about anything else"

"Okay" Ross thought for a minute, then he recalled something "Ellington texted me. Leah and Maya's birthday party is this Sunday"

Leah and Maya were Rydel and Ellington's daughters. They were twins and just a few months younger than Brody. They were identical except for their hair color.

Maya's was brown and Leah's was blonde.

"We'll go, then" Laura said as Brody came running toward his parents again "What will we buy them, by the way?"

"Rydel told me they wanted like, those huge dolls house, I don't really know" he sighed "I don't understand much about dolls"

Laura smirked "Don't worry. I do"

When Brody reached the bench where his parents were sat, he was out of breath "I...I just..."

"Breathe, dude" Ross picked him up and sat him on his lap. When the boy seemed to be alright again, he asked "What is it?"

Brody had a spark in his eyes, "Ive just had the best idea in the world!" He threw his arms in the air, making his parents smile widely.

"Tell us about it, then" Laura said.

The blonde boy jumped on the floor and took the lily from his mother's hand and showed it to them "I want to call my new sister Lily"

Ross and Laura looked at each other. They've already thought about names for the new baby, but none of them was Lily.

"Lily is a beautiful name, honey" Laura kissed her son's cheek "But why do you want to call her that? I thought you liked Victoria more"

When he first found out he was going to be a big brother, he immediately started to think about baby names. From the school, the park, tv shows... All names were valid for him.

"But I like Lily more!" He complained "And this lily is beautiful" he held the flower in the air "so will be my little sister"

Laura stood there, speechless. Her 2-year-old son had just given her one of the most convincing explanations she's ever heard in her life.

She leaned in and hugged him tightly, as if her life depended on it.

"Mommy" he mumbled on her chest "Cant. Breathe"

"Oh my god I'm sorry, sweetie" Laura released him, but the smile was still planted on her lips.

Ross picked Brody up again "What do you think mommy?" Ross asked, Brody holding the flower up in the air "Will it be Lily?"

Laura smiled warmly at the view of her two blonde boys. She secretly hoped that their daughter would have brown hair, but if she turned out blonde she wouldn't care at all.

She stared at the reasons of her happiness, and all they've been through, and all they will be through. And she immediately knew it.

"Lily, it is" she said as she held her stomach, grinning like the proud mom she was.

Brody cheered and hugged his parents, happy that finally someone had taken his suggestions seriously.

He pictures his parents and himself holding her brunette newborn sister, his chest full of happiness and proudness because he was the older sibling.

And he pictured himself following his parents upstairs to see how they put his new sister to sleep on the cot that had been his once.

And he pictured himself listening through the door as his dad muttered the words "Welcome to the family, Lily Hazel Lynch"
