joke (jōk)
noun
1. a thing that someone says to cause amusement or laughter, especially a story with a funny punchline.A joke. It was all life seemed to be, right? Your life was just a gag or something made for someone else's humor.... Right? You didn't have a real purpose now did you? To be honest, you didn't know at this point.
So you laid in your bed, deep in thought as you stared down the poster on the wall that an old friend had made you before the two of you parted ways. The poster was black with a silver garbage can on it, the words saying:
"Just because you're trash doesn't mean you can't do great things. It's called a garbage can. Not a garbage cannot."
You chuckled slightly, more of a disappointed laugh than joyous,"I'm the garbage cannot...."
With that said, you changed your position of your body to lay on your side, now able to access your phone. You noticed a small sheet of paper next to the cellular device. Picking it up, you observed that it was Karamatsu's phone number that he had given you the day before. You did promise to call him and since it was a Saturday, you had nothing better to do. Cautiously, you dialed his number, a tad bit scared that he didn't want to talk to you.
The phone rang once.
Then twice.
Three times-
"Hello? Who is this fine Karamatsu Lover calling me this fine morning?"
It took a lot of effort not to burst out laughing then and there. But you luckily held it in and put the phone on speaker so you wouldn't have to hold it to your ear.
"H-hey.... I-it's the girl that works at Sutabaa..." You said into the phone, thinking he would've forgotten your name since you weren't particularly important.
"Ah! There are many girls at Sutabaa that I have given my number too! But I'm sure this gorgeous maiden is no other than (y/n), correct?"
You didn't answer, not believing you were what he called a "gorgeous maiden". To you, none of yourself was pretty or even attractive really. Karamatsu on the other line grew a tad bit concerned, yet not surprised that you didn't respond to the compliment. He didn't expect you to. But he would make sure you would one day.
"This is my (y/n), no?" He said again, leaving out a compliment to see if you would reply to him, "Hello?"
"It's me... Yeah. (Y/n). Sorry. I zoned out..." You were now staring at your ceiling fan, phone rested on your chest.
"No problem, my dearest! What tempted you to call me?"
You froze in your spot on the bed, neck feeling hot all of a sudden. Why had you called? You probably seemed like a damn creep!
"I-I'm sorry! I'm being creepy and now you probably hate me. I'll hang up now. Bye Karamatsu!" You were about to click the end call button.
"WAIT don't hang up on me! You're not being creepy! I'm just stunned!" He hoped you wouldn't leave the call.
"S-stunned?"
"I never thought someone as amazing as you would actually take time out of their day to contact me....!" He smiled which you could almost sense through the phone.
"Amazing...? I think you're mistaking me for someone else, Kara... I'm trash..."
He chuckled, "You sound like my younger brother, Ichimatsu... And you're not trash nor am I mistaking you for someone else. I genuinely find you to be astonishing!"
