Nobody

Nobody writes these words
Jots them down in the cluttered notes section
Of their cracked little telephone screen
Nobody questions if they make sense
If they aren't just cough medicine
Disgusting to the taste
And forced down your throat
Nobody feels themselves drowning in thin air
Like a twister with no eye
No place of numb surroundings
Nobody ponders why syllables are lumps in the back of throats
Weighing down scratchy vocal chords
Nobody admires deafening silence
As it seeps into pores and plants its banner for all to see
Nobody likes to be abandoned
Locked in a dimly lit corner
While the world around them
Breathes through uncrushed rib cages
Nobody understands
Because there is nothing there to comprehend
No reasons to stuff behind ears
No... no 'matter' to smear on swollen lips
Nobody gets it
Nobody is that desperate to dissipate into the atmosphere
Nobody feels the monsoon scrape away at their skin cells
Peeling back their first layer of defense
But everybody refuses to understand
Why, you ask?
Because this entire time I was calling myself nobody and yet...
