Jaehyun sighed as he walked out of his warm and comfortable house and into the cold and uninviting outside world, carrying a box of rice cakes. He looked down his street, "The street lights are still on?" he complained to himself. As much as he wished he were back in his cozy bed, he took a deep breath and walked from his porch to his new neighbour's house.

Hesitantly, he knocked on the door and waited for a few seconds. ''Mum will get pissed if I only knocked once and then gave up. Here goes" he knocked on the door again and this time he heard something.

"Oh my god! IM COMING!" a female's voice came from inside, sounding obviously annoyed. The door flung open and a girl in a big, loose shirt stood in front of him.

"May I help you?" she asked quite passive-aggressively. Jaehyun would've gone on in his head about how gorgeous she was but concentrated on not making her any angrier instead.

"My name is Jung Jaehyun, I live next door" he motioned with his head to the left, towards his home, "My mum asked me to come over and introduce myself. I know it's extremely early and all but she would've gotten more angry than you are right now if I didn't go" he bowed and the girl laughed slightly, "She's that bad?" she asked and the boy just shrugged.

"Well, come in. It's freezing out there" the girl said with a small smile and Jaehyun couldn't refuse the offer, his toes feeling as if they were a about to fall off. He held onto the box of rice cakes as he followed her to the lounge room.

"Your home is very cosy" he complimented as he looked around, noticing the amount of photos that lined the walls, seeming to tell the family's life story through pictures. "Thanks" she said simply.

"Coffee?" she asked, the boy nodded with a smile and a "Thank you" when she appeared in the door way.

A minute so later she sat down across from him and put a mug on the small table that separated them. "Well, I'm Kim Areum. I should've said that earlier" she smiled, making Jaehyun's heart warm up just from the view of it. "Jung Jaehyun" he shook her hand.

Areum giggles slightly, "I know that already" the boy smiled and scratched the nape of his neck, "oops?" he chuckled.

"My dad is at work already so I'm sorry he couldn't introduce himself to you" she took a long sip of her coffee, a 'wow, same' run through Jaehyun's mind as he watched her take large gulps. "He must be a hard worker" he said, hoping to make his first interaction with the pretty next door be one that wasn't awkward.

Areum smiled down at her coffee, "Yeah, he's a detective" she said.

"Anyway, what's that?" she eyed the box that Jaehyun laid on the coffee table. "My mum gives a box of rice cakes to any new neighbours" he explained and the girl's eyes lit up.

"Want one?"

"Hell yeah"

The pair practically jumped on the box, trying to get it open quickly. Satisfied sounds came from them both as they ate the sweets. "This is amazing" Areum said, almost in a daze. "I know right" Jaehyun said with a groan as he chewed.

The two nearly finished the whole box before they realised how many they had eaten. "She's gonna kill me" Jaehyun looked at the box in horror, Areum laughed, "Ha, sucks to be you" she joked.
