Chapter Twelve
Dace Pov
6th period
After Mr. Nunez called attendance he told everyone "now you have to turn in your drawing assignments but first you just explain why whatever you drew is important to you." Crap this isn't good. "Now do we have volunteers? No? Okay, Mr. Acosta you come up to the front first." CRAP! Why me! My heart began pounding. Hands trembling. Throat beginning to feel like I haven't had water for days. I walk to the front with the drawing of Lilah. I looked at her then turned my drawing around so everyone could see. Her eyes were wide filled with shock. I cleared my throat.
"I drew this girl. I used to know her. She was important to me because she was the only friend I had. We grew up together. She was my first crush." The girls in the classes broke out into awws "But now I don't know who she is. She's become a stranger in the last seven years of my life. But no matter how long I haven't seen her I still spend at least one minute of everyday thinking of her." I handed the drawing to Mr. Nunez and then sat down. I looked back at Lilah and a tear ran down her cheek.
"Well done this is amazing. You my good sir have talent indeed." Everyone's eyes were on me. I felt weird and awkward. I messed with my hands and I could still feel their eyes on me. I felt nervous and anxious. Spotlights are definitely not for me. But when I looked up at Lilah from across the room, she was the only one not staring at me. Only silently crying. I feel bad I should've just done a quick sketch at lunch. I shouldn't have said that. Ugh I need to find a new class. I don't want to be in the same classes as her. After almost half the class went up the bell rang and I tried to move as quickly as possible to get out of the class. But she grabbed me. My heart stopped, and my "moving on" plan went downhill from there.
"Hey can we talk for a sec?"
"uh-uh I have a class to go to it's far away so I have to rush uh maybe some other time."
"Dace stop making excuses. I remember who you are now. Why are you trying to hide from me?"
"I can't handle you being back. All my emotions get messed up and I can't think straight. I just want to be left alone where no one can hurt me again."
"You don't think I was hurt when I had to leave you and without even saying goodbye?"
"Then why didn't you call you had my number! We never moved, we never changed our number! So why didn't you call?"
"We were still kids Dace. And because I was afraid to face you. Afraid that you might hate me."
"I don't hate you. I could never hate you Lilah. I had the biggest crush on you. I practically fell in love with you from the start. And I never stopped thinking of you."
"Dace.. Please don't do this now.." Tears ran down her cheeks.
"I love you. And no matter what I can't stop thinking of you. Why can't you understand that I want to be with you." I held onto her tight. Never wanting to let go. I whispered "Lilah, please don't leave me again." She let go putting her hand on my cheek.
"Never again will I leave." She said as she kissed me.
