Never Neverland

one: darkwood hall

I leapt onto the bed, the springs creaking loudly with my every step. I bent my knees a few times, bouncing.

"Happy thoughts. Happy thoughts! Happy THOUGHTS!"

I took a moment, then leapt as high as I could, arms out. But instead of flying up and away, I landed flat on my face on the padded floor. I refused to let it stop me. I picked myself up, and stood on the creaky bed again.

I started to jump again, but this time, I was facing towards the wall. I leapt up again, with my hands up. I latched my fingers on the sill of the high window above my bed, and held tight. My toes scratched on the wall, trying to get a grip on it. I pushed down on my elbows, pulling my body up, using all of my strength. I pulled my fingers up to the bars of the window, kneeling on the small ledge there.

I twisted my body around into a sitting position, where I was fairly comfortable. I scanned the vast night sky, my fingers tracing the constellations. I looked all around for it, that little dot in the sky. I traced a path.

"To the right.....and one...two!"

There it was. Neverland. I remember my adventures there with Peter and the Lost Boys. We climbed trees, explored caves, met mermaids, had a feast with Indians. My favorite part, however, was when we attacked Captain Hook's ship. He was scared stiff, he wouldn't even fight back! Then it all had to end. He told me I could always go back. He said he would come back to my house and find me.

Frustrated, I threw my head back. I pulled on the bars, and yelled as loudly as I could, even though I knew he would never hear me.

"Peter! Peter Pan! I need you, please come find me! Peter! Oh....." I sobbed.

I was truly alone.
