I never expected it to get this bad.
As I stand in front of the one person who was meant to stick by my side, a gun in hand...
I never. Expected. This. To. Happen.
What had led me down this path? What mistakes had I made? What mistakes had she made?
"Just do it already!" Someone from behind me shouts. It was one of the scientists from the lab. He didn't understand.
None of them did! How could they! They weren't the ones holding a gun to their beloved's head!
They weren't the ones that were looking their soulmate's in the eye right before they were to kill them.
(Y/N) eyes shone so bright. Her hair was billowing behind her, the wind shifting it and allowing the highlight to stand out against her (H/C) hair. The blood of her first meal was splattered against her front, blood covering her chin and dripping to the cement below her.
Drip. Drop. Drip. Drop.
Like a never ending rhythm. The countdown to the moment I never wanted to reach.
Around us the parking garage was cold and barren. Cars had long ago left, people coming and going from work had done as they needed. In the end... This was probably one of the loneliest places he had ever seen. It felt as though the walls were closing in on him, the hard cement pressing in and in until there was no room left. No room to do anything. No breathing. No living. No anything...
Except take in. Take in my soulmate. Take in the people behind me. Take in the present as it comes and take in the past that has lead us here. Take in the colors. Take in the shining (E/C) that I knew I would never see again after tonight.
"Levi..." This time, It was her. This time it wasn't the ignorant people that ran Levi. Instead, it was you. "Levi it's okay. I forgive you. You have to do this."
You voice was soft, calming to him. Levi began to shake at your words. He began to shake at the time of voice you used.
Acceptance.
You were accepting this. Without much thought to what would come, you were opening your arms wide and welcoming the unknown material that would end your life before the sun came up once again.
A smile even graced your lips.
"Levi, please. I promise it's okay. I understand. Don't be scared, I understand." You put you hand on the cold metal of the shaking gun, holding it still against your forehead. "It's going to be okay."
"I can't do it." Levi chokes out, tears pouring out of his eyes and leaking down his cheeks. They added to the drip drop of the blood off of your chin.
Everything was silent. The world was bowing in respect for what was to come next.
You simply smile, your own tears falling.
"Levi, listen to me." You whisper. Your hand was curling into a fist against your jeans, blood saturating the fabric of the perfect fit jeans you wore and turning them a rustic color. Then again... that does a pair of jeans matter right now?
Levi was a mess. For the first time in anyone's memory, the man was crying. Tears falling from his face in rivers as he forced himself to focus on you. His vision was blurry, yes, but he forced himself... he forced himself to look at you and only you. For at the moment, you were the sole thing that mattered.
"We both know you must do this. We both know how this must end. Do not worry over me, as I have already forgiven you. Just do what must be done." You whisper, you eyes suddenly fluttering closed. You don't dare move your hand from the gun, knowing that if you did Levi wouldn't be able to keep it against your head.
So instead you kneel on the ground, one hand curled into a fist and the other supporting the gun that will soon end your life.
Without the sense of sight, you take to listening. Listening to the sound of Levi's uneven breathing. Listening to the sound of the people behind him, all seemingly holding their breathe. You assumed this all seemed like a joke to them. A frame filled play they had been along for the ride for. But to you... to Levi... it was your life.
Or rather the end of it.
"(Y/N) I-I can't-"
"You can Levi. Don't make me wait, please." You say with a soothing tone, trying to calm Levi while also giving the small push he needs to succeed.
After the words were uttered the room was once again engulfed in silence. Levi's breathing had even began to calm. It was then you knew... you didn't have to worry about all this for much longer.
No more ghouls.
No more cannibalism.
No more soulmate.
No more Levi.
"...I'm sorry, (Y/N)." Levi suddenly whispers, his finger pressing the trigger down.
With a loud bang the respectful peace in the room was shattered into a million pieces. Levi's hand bolted backwards slightly with the force.
Your body fell to the ground with a thud. A single, overworked person reduced to a lump on the floor. What had led you here? What had caused this to happen to someone like you?
Was it the ghoul?
The surgery?
The refusal to eat?
No. It was not. To trace your death back to the beginning, you must simply remember this:
Color is something not all of us get the chance to experience. When you do, hold it close. Hold it as close as you can and never let go.
Because when it is ripped from you... you are either dead... or dying.
