Chapter 26

I wake up a day before the party and realise it's only 5.15. However, I hear someone downstairs. I slowly creep downstairs holding a remote ready to throw at anyone incase it's a burglar. I suddenly feel very scared. Then I hear the clink of a mug and relax a bit. Maybe it's just someone making tea or coffee.

As I walk downstairs, I see Zoe sat at the kitchen table nervously staring into space.

"Zo?"
She turns around and pretends to smile. She's not very good at pretending.
"Come on Zoe. Your turn now. I always share everything with you and you always help me. I'll return the favour. What's wrong?"

Suddenly, she starts crying.
"Jess, I'm.. I'm pregnant!"
The whole world stops for a second. Zoe's pregnant? Woah this is big. It'll be all over the news for days.

"Well that's amazing Zoe!"
"But it isn't amazing. I don't think it's Alfie's!"
The room feels a lot smaller. I have an ache in my stomach and everything goes blurry. What?

"Zoe.. you're not serious?"
I went to a party a couple months back and I just got so drunk that me and Sean..."

"Hold up! Sean. Sean as in Poppy's Sean! Sean as in your boyfriend's sisters boyfriend. Zoe that's low. Not only have you cheated Alfie but you've also cheated Poppy!" I gasp and cover my mouth before I say anymore.

"Zoe, I'm so sorry I..."
"No you're right. I made a horrible mistake and I need to fix this. I just don't know how to."

"Does Alfie know you're pregnant?"
"Yes but he thinks it's his."
"Just tell him Zo. Tell him straight. No lies, no twists it's better to get it all out. And then the apologies come. He'll forgive you. He loves you too much to let go."

"You think?" She Asks worriedly.
"Of course." I reply.
"Fine, but I'll wait until after your birthday, I don't want to spoil things."

Suddenly my mum bursts into the kitchen.
"I heard crying, is everything ok? Zoe are you alright?"

"Yes, I was just talking to Jess. Sometimes it's just good to have a little cry now and again."
I pat her shoulder and she smiles up at me.

Hopefully he'll understand and forgive her.
