Chapter 7

Skip to Friday...
I kept thinking about what Harvey had said all week. I didn't ask Max about it. It was far too awkward and embarrassing to discuss. Wednesday and Thursday went by extremely slowly. It was boring. However, on Friday, we had an assembly in which Max and Harvey were to perform. As I walked into school, I noticed max looking extremely nervous. I'd barely spoken to him all week, except that first day. Now was my chance to speak to him.
"Are you ok?" I ask him. He looks up from twiddling his thumbs.
"I...I don't really know."
"Are you nervous about the assembly?"
"Yes..I suppose I am!"
"But you're an amazing singer!"
He looks at me and smiles.
"I know but it isn't that simple. I always feel like I'm going to miss something or make a mistake." He sighs and goes back to twiddling his thumbs.
I pull his thumbs away from each other.
"You'll be great! Really great!" We stare at each other for a while until the teachers voice breaks us apart.
"Right. Everyone off to the assembly hall."
I give his shoulder a reassuring pat, then follow the rest of the class out of the door. I don't know why, but that moment gave me butterflies. Maybe.. maybe I do have feelings for max! I shake the thought out of my head and run up to my friend Megan. She smiles as she sees me.
"Hiya Jess! How's it going?"
I smile at her. "Brilliant thanks Meg! I wonder what song Max and Harvey are going to sing!"
"I don't know! But I know one thing!"
"What's that?" I ask wondering if she knows anything about Max liking me.
"That Harvey sure is a cutie!" She whispers.
I grin. "Ooh Megan has a lickle crush on Harvey!"
"Shut up!" She laughs, playfully pushing me, perhaps a little too hard. I stumble back onto someone. As I turn around, my cheeks flush red as I realise I've just walked into Max.
"Um..I..I'm..sorry....you see... I was pushed by... my friend Megan!" I stutter in embarrassment.
I can hear Megan giggling behind me.
"Sorry Max!"
Max looks at me all serious, then he lets out a loud laugh. A few people stare.
"It's ok. Don't be daft I knew it was your friend that pushed you!" He looks at Megan and it's her turn to be embarrassed.
"Anyway I'm off to sing!" He says following Harvey to the front off the hall.
Megan and I find two seats at the corner of the hall. We sit down and Megan begins laughing.
"Oh god that was too funny!"
"Excuse me Megan, please be quiet!" The teacher whispers.
Harvey clears his throats and everyone falls silent.
"Hello I'm Harvey. This is my twin brother max!"
Max waves shyly.
"We are going to sing our new song. Our second original song!"
A few people cheer.
Skip to end of song...
The whole room is filled with applause. I'm the one clapping the loudest. Megan is probably second loudest. At the end of assembly, I run up to max and give him a hug. "That was very good!" I say.
Max's cheeks flush red. "Thank you!" He says.
