Happy Easter, readers! This is my chocolate egg for you all! Hope you like it! 🐣💕
Ámbar's POV
I wake up feeling much better, not 100% yet but improving for sure.
The light coming from the window doesn't bother me anymore and the time displayed on my clock is satisfying enough.
I get up, deciding that today I wouldn't be staying in all day. As much as watching tv and movies as grown a bit on me, I like enjoying the air outside, and I need to do something productive. So back to skating.
I take a shower, and dress quickly, wanting to enjoy and make up for as much time as I can.
Just when I am finishing applying a bit of makeup, my phone ringing. I check the ID caller, not wanting to repeat what happened yesterday, but of course she couldn't simply forget it.
"Before you call me Simón and start telling me how much you love me, know that this Emilia. Though I know you love me. How couldn't you?"
"Can't you just let it go?"
"No, sweetie, not Elsa here. It's Emilia."
"Ughhh..."
"Sorry, I do have a little sister. Anyways, I am calling you to let you know the boys want to do boy stuff, whatever that means, so we have another day to ourselves."
"Who said I wanted to spend the day with you?"
"Hello, it's Emilia here! Not Lunita. Of course you need me. What were you thinking of doing, cry over those two losers? Sorry not sorry. I know you like the guy and I kind of do too (in my own way) but they still lost and his 'friendship' with Lunita it's just so sad. It's like he is her dog or whatever..."
I roll my eyes just thinking how true what she just said was.
"Actually I was planning on going out to skate."
"Wonderful! I will be there in 20! Byeeee!" She announces, hanging up seconds later.
I shake my head thinking how in the world did I end up with a friend who seemed to be less friendly than I ever was with Delfina and Jazmin. But then again they weren't really my friends and I do get along with Emilia too well. I guess we are that similar.I grab my roller skates, my bag and head downstairs. Things are quieter, probably given the fact that it's still early and Luna is probably asleep. Between her and Simón, I don't know which one is the worse in that department. Guess that, just like me and Emilia, they are way too similar.
Which makes me think: how can I... unlike (note the euphemism) her so much and feel what I feel for him?
Hearts are really messed up...
I should probably get back to having none...
Right... I already did... And it's wasn't really working...When I arrive at the kitchen, Alfredo is there, sneaking around, probably wanting something to eat.
"Good morning!" I exclaim, letting me know I am here.
He hesitates in his place, knowing he just got busted, and then turns to me with a big smile on his face.
"Good morning, kiddo! It's good to see you up and well! Have you eaten anything?"
"Yes I am feeling better. And no I haven't eaten anything. Actually I was..."
"Great than we can have breakfast together!"
Carolina got in followed but Monica, carrying bags of fresh food. They greet me as they start putting the things way.
I sit down, being followed by Alfredo.
"Would you like something to eat?"
"Yes please. Something light. Or not, I am going skating. Something energetic. But I should skate with my stomach full... Something light but energetic, can it be?"
"Yes of course, Ámbar. This morning I did a oat and banana cake, that and a glass of orange juice. What do you think?"
"That sound amazing. Thank you."
"I will have one of those too!" Alfredo exclaims. I have never seen someone so thrilled to eat.
"Haven't you eaten breakfast already, Mr. Alfredo?"
"I did, hours ago, but I am not leaving my granddaughter to eat all alone. That would be rude, right?" He winks at me and I shake my head. This man has no remedy...
Monica crosses her arms, not fully convinced but ends up giving up with the pout he was showing her.
"Fine but a small portion! You need to watch your diet!"
"It's a deal!"We are finishing when someone rings the bell and then Emilia walks through the door.
"Good morning family!" She greets, a fake happiness in her voice.
She sits next to me, stealing the last bite on my plate. I simply roll my eyes at her. There is no point in arguing with this Mexican. "Humm, this is good. It was Monica, right?"
She licks her finger.
"Emilia, manners, please?"
"Yes, Miss Ámbar!"
She shows her tongue and, don't tell anyone, but I do it too.
"Oh isn't it amusing to see you two! Are you skating as well?"
"Yeah that's the plan! I was on a pretty good spot just yesterday. The space is bigger than the one we used to train for Roda Fest and it even has a coffeeshop."
"Why would you go outside, when we have a skating ring just here?" Alfredo asks confused.
"You have a skating ring? And you didn't tell me?!"
"Luna's idea... Come."
I get up and instruct her to follow me outside where the small, or big depending on the eyes of who saw it, was installed.
"Can I move in with you? This is a paradise!"
"Yeah yeah! But wouldn't you prefer to be alone and without other people interrupting?" I ask meaning Luna and Simón.
She gets it, but is too impressed to even care.
"God, no. I wanna stay here. I have had enough of guys asking me for my number on the park. Like, I know I skate well, I know I am gorgeous and amazing, but please who told them I wanted them to text me or a boyfriend or whatever? They are way too overrated!"
Alfredo laughs and sits on a bench.
"That's because you probably were never in love. Who knows, you might change your mind." He shrugs and she puts on a disgusted face.
"Please no! I have enough to deal already... Let's not talk too much about this. It gives me shivers... I am putting my skates on." Emilia sits next to Alfredo.
I send her a look to confirm if she really does want to stay here, but my dearest friend procedes gearing up.
I sigh and head inside to grab my bag. It's no surprise when I find her already skating around, warming up.
This thing really is good. I do feel like a Slider.A few minutes and I join her. We might not have everyone on the park watching us, but Emilia sure was enjoying Alfredo's admiration towards us. He claps and cheers with every jump, turn and move we do. And it's almost makes me feel like I am having a normal moment with my grandfather and my friend. I shove my thoughts away, focusing on how good and free skating like this is making me feel.
Emilia gets her phone and puts our usual Sliders training songs. We start performing a choreography we had for a duet competition about a week after our win. Needless to say we won. One of the best things about the Sliders is that they take your best qualities, your strengths and explore it to the maximum. So I feel super comfortable and proud doing this. I have only been with them for a short time, but I already felt like I have learnt and improved so much. I feel recognized, needed, appreciated. Which was something I hadn't felt in a long time with the Roller team.
I don't notice others had joined until we get to the final pose and we hear multiple claps. Luna and Simón are sitting right to Alfredo, skates in their feet as well. And it might be my impression, but Simón has something close to a proud smile on his face.
