The ravenette sat alone beside Chiba's hospital bed. She clutched his hand tightly. They had long since made up, with Kagami telling the depressed man that she no longer felt any ill will towards him as him bringing her up was more than enough to make up for it.
Her heart felt beaten up and she wanted to throw up. She never knew how brutal emotions could be. Still she charged on.
After Chiba's attempted suicide she played it off like she was perfectly fine but Subaru could tell she felt miserable. I mean the way she would wander the rose garden like a lost puppy was obvious enough let alone her lack of energy in their occasional sparring exercise. She rarely left her room and only Subaru really cared enough to stick by her side. They would talk for hours about nothing and he could make her smile even if for just that split second.
After Chiba's condition was reported to be stable she got a lot better and Subaru felt better too. She ate normally and got a lot more cheery. Only then was the household able to appreciate the true side of Kagami. The one that would pull pranks on the brothers and easily slip out of consequences. The one who would cook entire meals based on a remark one of the boys made. The one who would give sarcastic remarks to enrage the boys and then immediately calming them down with a single smile. That's who she was.
As the girl left the hospital ward, she caught sight of a white haired male leaning by a wall, trying not to seem suspicious. When she waved at him he seemed to curse at himself for being noticed as he hesitantly shuffled out of his hideyhole.
He seemed to debate something in his head before grabbing the girl. The scenery around them warped and eventually changed. They were now on a white bridge, near the foot of a stone tower and surrounded by delicate white roses protruding from black thorny brambles.
As the ravenette looked around slightly disoriented, the albino snagged a rose from a bush, scratched slightly by a thorn as he hid the rose with his body, pulling the pale girl along with him as they entered the tower.
The smell of mould and the musty atmosphere made for a rather old but strangely magical setting.
Every few steps they took, a small pebble of stone would crack off the step, falling down a few steps with soft thuds. As they reached the top of the staircase, the male pulled open the wooden door, the wood groaning at the force. He looked at the girl, silently beckoning her to enter the room which she complied.
The sunlight of the setting sun from the solitary window of the room reflected off the dust in the air, making the room look frozen in time.
As the girl took in the scenery and how beautiful it looked at sundown, Subaru lifted the rose and tucked it into her hair, making the female turn to face him.
He hurriedly retracted his hand. "Sorry." He turned to leave but was stopped by a hand that tugged him to face a certain ravenette. She mustered up a warm smile and engulfed the male in a bear hug. He stumbled back, startled by the girl's actions before slowly moving his hands to the female's back.
The night was spent in that tower room as they talked about anything at all, enjoying each others company as the truth spilled from their lip.
"I love you."
