I drummed my fingers on the desktop impatiently as I watched the clock. 2:45. Once that bell rang it would be the weekend. Finally. The week was dragging by ever so slowly. I'd zoned out lookin at the clock so I hardly realized when someone tapped my shoulder. I snapped my head towards the person disturbing my thoughts. Diego was his name. I internally rolled my eyes and plastered a smile on my face. "What's up?" I ask as nicely as possible. "Yo did you get those notes? I totally fell asleep and if I flunk this test my mom will kill me" he exaggerated. I sighed pulling my notebook out "it's a lot of notes will you be able to copy it in.." I glance to the clock "5 minutes?"  This seemed to stress him out. "Here just write your number down and I'll send you pictures of them later" I say quickly. He nods his head and scribbles the number down sloppily. "Yo thanks man" he grinned lazily. This time I gave him a genuine smile. Before things could get awkward the bell rang. I shoved my notebook back in my bag and vacated the room as quickly as possible. Almost everyone I knew drove to school but my mom worked two jobs just to make ends meet. Medical school drained her pockets and 6 years later she's still in debt. She wants me to follow in her foot steps so I can someday be a world renowned surgeon. Two more years and she will be one. Maybe not world renowned..but a surgeon for sure. The walk home was a short one but a light sprinkle started half way there. I wasn't complaining. It was nearly summer and scorching hot. Not that it really cooled off much here in Redlands. Once I'd made it home my hair was damp and my feet were wet from rain puddles. Moms car wasn't in the drive which indicated that she'd probably picked up an extra shift at the hospital. I sighed and unlocked the front door. The house was dark and lonely. I plucked a hot pink sticky note off the refrigerator door that had obviously been left behind by my mother. "Picked up an extra shift, there are left overs in the fridge or $30 for pizza. NO BOYS! ~mom <3"  I rolled my eyes so hard I swear I saw my brain. She always felt the need to include "no boys" as if I had them lining up out the door for me. She knows I've never so much as held hands with a guy. I slipped my shoes off and settled into the couch. Shit. I was supposed to be sending Diego pictures of those notes. After snapping pictures of the notes I typed his number into my phone and pressed send. A reply came quickly after
Diego: hey thanks!😁 I was starting to think you forgot
                                                    No problem D: Me
I felt the vibration of my phone once again and looked at the screen.
Diego: umm..what was your name again?
"Wowwwww" I say out loud. He's sat next to me and cheated off every test we have had but doesn't know my name?
Dakota. :Me Diego: thanks Dakota! I owe you.
Diego never had the chance to return the favor because he didn't return to school. I debated texting him after a few days of him not showing up but always decided against it. After all he didn't even know my name.
