"Mom, I'm home!" Kellin calls as we walk into his family home.
My nerves are killing me but I'm trying to hide it. I don't know if Kellin's family is going to like me but I hope they do. After all, I do want to spend forever with Kellin so they're going to have to put up with me anyway.
A little girl comes running down the stairs, her eyes wide.
"Kellin!" She yells.
"Harper!" Kellin yells in return as he rushes over to her and scoops her up in his arms.
"You didn't forget about me, did you?" Harper asks, sounding worried as Kellin hold her tightly.
"Of course not. Not for a second." He replies. "What about you? Did you forget about me?"
"Never." Harper grins. "I missed you."
"I missed you too." Kellin whispers, a tear falling down his cheek.
"Are you going to leave again?" She whispers softly.
"In two weeks I need to go back home but I'll be back here every chance I get, I promise. I will never disappear again." Kellin explains, then he comes back over to me, the child still in his arms.
"Who's that?" Harper whispers to Kellin.
"This is Vic. He's my boyfriend." Kellin smiles. "Vic, this is Harper, my little sister."
Harper holds out her hand cutely, so I take it and kiss it. She giggles and retracts it.
"It's nice to meet you." She blushes.
"It's nice to meet you too." I grin.
Kellin puts her down and ruffles her hair.
"Where's Mom?" he asks her.
"In the kitchen. She's baking cookies for Santa. She has her headphones on." Harper explains.
Kellin takes my hand and leads me into the kitchen where a woman is washing dishes and humming along to a song with headphones on. Kellin drops my hand and goes up behind his mom before hugging her tightly and kissing her cheek. She squeals and drops her headphones then she throws her arms around Kellin. He hugs her as she cries into his shoulder. I linger back awkwardly, just giving them their space.
"Ma, you have to stop crying. It's Christmas." He grins, consoling the woman.
"No, it's Christmas eve!" She sniffs. "What are you doing here? You're not supposed to be here until tomorrow."
"We got ancy and couldn't wait any longer." He chuckles. "So we thought we'd surprise you."
"I can't believe you're finally here." She breathes, letting go of Kellin.
She then turns to me and I begin feeling nervous all over again.
"It's so nice to finally meet the boy my son doesn't shut up about." She says wrapping her arms around me.
I let out a relieved sigh. So far, so good.
"It's so nice to meet you too. Kellin has barely slept all week because he's been so excited to come here so I suggested we get on the next flight and here we are." I grin.
"I think you made the right decision." She beams, letting go of me. "You must be exhausted. Do you boys want anything?"
"No, I'm fine." Kellin answers and I nod, agreeing with him.
"Well, come sit down. Let's catch up. I missed talking to my son and I'm dying to get to know you, Vic." She grins.
We go sit at the dining table, Kellin and I sitting next to each other while his mom sits across from us.
