A/N Draco's also best friends with Hermione here.
Draco's POV
Can your own home be where your worst memories lie? Because mine sit at Malfoy Manor. And I still remember the worst memory in vivid detail...
I stared after Harry as he was forced into the dungeon with Ron. I wanted to run after him. To help him. But that'd get us both killed.
Besides, I just told Father I couldn't be sure it was him. Of course I knew it was him. I knew what my own boyfriend looked like.
I heard the dungeon door slam shut and I slowly turned, aware that I'd be met with the sight of my best friend being tortured.
I audibly gasped when I saw Bellatrix advancing towards Hermione.
"No..." I whispered under my breath. Yet I kept my posture still; they couldn't know that I associate with their enemy.
Bellatrix let out a squeal of delight. "A mudblood? Just for me? How perfect!"
Hermione's eyes closed and she took a deep breath. I knew that her heart was pounding just as fast as mine.
Bellatrix was taking slow steps as Hermione stood her ground. I felt nauseous watching the scene unfold.
Bellatrix stroked Hermione's cheeks with the back of her hand. "What should we do with you?" she pouted.
She raised her wand level to Hermione's collar bone. She pretended to be deep in thought. "Hm... Crucio!" she announced decidedly.
Before I could decipher the situation, Hermione was on the ground, her body racked with jerking movements.
She screeched in agony, and tears were falling down her face.
I took a step forward, before my eyes settled on Father. I looked down and stepped back.
No matter what I do now, I'll either betray my family or my friends, I thought.
When I looked up, Bellatrix was literally on top of Hermione and blood from Hermione's arm was covering them both.
That's when I decided that Hermione needed me more than I'll ever care for my family again.
I caught a wave of movement in the corner of my eye and could make out Harry, Ron and a few of the other captives holding Dobby's hands.
I continued to stride towards the two on the floor.
I broke Bellatrix's hysterical cackling with an "Expelliarmus!"
Her head snapped towards me, her delight fading. "Why would you do that? I was only getting started!" she complained.
I pushed her off of Hermione. "Stay away from her!" I growled down at Bellatrix.
"D-Draco?" Bellatrix asked, confused. "Not even a little fun?"
Did I. F*cking. Stutter?" I snarled.
She pursed her lips and slowly nodded. "I see..." she agreed.
Before I knew it, her wand was pointing in my direction. I should have known. Never humiliate a Deatheater.
She drew in a breath.
"AVADA KEDAVRA!"
I heard a few shouts go around the room, but my eyes remained closed as I waited for my time. Any minute... any minute...
I opened an eye and was met with a deafening silence.
I looked down to see a body on the floor in front of me.
My heart nearly jumped out of my chest and my throat closed up when I recognized the mop of brunette hair. No one spoke as I knelt down beside my dead boyfriend. Tears spilled steadily down my cheeks. I felt as though someone had taken a piece of my soul from me.
I realized suddenly that Harry had shielded me from the killing curse.
"No," I whispered.
A few eyes went to me.
"No!" I whispered again.
"NO!!!" I yelled. I was yelling at Bellatrix, for casting the spell. At Harry, for sacrificing his heroic life for my dark, pitiful one. And at myself, for allowing this to happen.
I pulled Harry's head onto my lap and sobbed over him.
I'll kill them. All the Deatheaters. They're all going to die. I told myself. And I knew I'd fulfill that promise.
