Caleb's POV

It happened so quick there was no time to react. One minute she was in my arms with her beautiful eyes staring at mine with love and adoration and then the next minute she is running in the middle of the street as a oncoming car sped through hitting her as it went.

I stood in shock at first because I couldn't believe she just got hit than when I finally came to my senses I began to run to her with tears filling my eyes as I thought, I can't lose her!

"Somebody call the ambulance!" I scream feeling panic fill every part of my body.

I felt like I had been running for miles when I finally reached where she laid looking dead. Blood covered her forehead and her leg looked smashed, but in her arms she held tightly to a small bloodied white puppy who was looking around with frightened eyes.

I stared at her with such admiration and anger at her actions just to save this puppy and I stood beside her unsure of what to do. She opened her eyes slightly and stared at me, but the she shut them as if she had given up.

"Don't you dare die on me!" I scream at her as she seemed to drift in and out of consciousness making me panic even more.

Everyone began to gather around with tears in their eyes as they stared at what seemed to be a lifeless body. Sammy was sobbing hard and Daniel was hugging her trying to comfort her even as he wiped tears from his own eyes. Amy stood next to me with her hand on my shoulder as she silently cried with her face turned away.

Grief seemed to fill everybody making everyone begin to cry as we waited for the ambulance to arrive. And after waiting for what seemed like hours, they finally arrived and began to move quickly trying to load her up and rush her to the hospital.

"Caleb," her raspy unrecognizable voice said, "I-I lo-love y-you."

It was the first time she had said that to me and with that last word she drifted farther away from me. For the first time since she got hit, I began to sob feeling my world crush down on me. The paramedics looked at me with sympathy as they handed me the puppy that had caused all of this.

"Here, we'll take care of this little guy for now," Amy said taking the puppy gently from me and handing him to Daniel.

"You might want to follow us to the hospital," one of the paramedics said as they began to pull out and head in that direction.

Feeling dazed I follow Daniel and Amy to their car and sat silently in the back all the way to the hospital.

I can't lose her! I can't lose her! I kept thinking as we sat in the waiting room waiting for someone to come and tell us what was going on.

Hours later long after my butt had become stiff from sitting in the uncomfortable chairs in the waiting room, the doctor finally came out with his face extremely grim.

"Those here for Cathy?" He asked looking around the waiting room.

Everybody stood up but our group walked closer to the doctor to hear what he had to say.

"Cathy has a pretty serious break in her leg which should heal just fine, but she hit her head really bad. Other than that she should be fine," he explains to us eager listeners.

"Can we see her?" We all say at the same time.

His eyes become visibly sadder as he tells us the last of his news.

"That's fine with me, but don't expect any response from her. She's in a coma," he delivered the last news bitterly before beckoning us to follow him.

His words struck me in the heart. This was not the way today was supposed to end. Not only did things go from bad to worse, I now felt like the end of the world has arrived.

Cathy was my everything. I loved her with every bone in my body and I had hoped to grow old with her and have a happy life with her, but now she was in a coma for who knows how long. One thing was for certain. I would wait for her.

We were lead up a long corridor and shown into the room where she laid cleaned and bandaged looking as if she was sleeping peacefully. Her leg was hung up and marks covered her arms showing signs of bruises.

We stood crowded in her little room unable to speak for the shock of seeing her state. One by one the people around our little group who knew her, said their get well soon and began to leave. Finally it was just our group and her. Tears and sobs filled the room as we all grieved together at the horrible sight of her state.

I walked up to her and kissed her cheek while telling myself to be strong for her.

"I swear Cathy, I will be here waiting for you,"
