It was so funny how shocked she was when I talked to her and I couldn't help but burst out laughing at her statement.
"Are you really that shocked?" I asked her my eyes twinkling in amusement.
"Uh...let me think about that...well duh I'm shocked! You have never said a word about yourself to me or anyone for that matter!" She exclaims rolling her eyes in annoyance.
"Wait a minute I thought you said you were friends," a very confused Caleb stated.
"Well technically she didn't have a choice but to be my friend...I kind of told her I was going to be her friend no matter what," her cool voice responded smoothly.
"Oh, that explains a lot!" He exclaimed turning to give me a big smile and I swear I melted like ice cream on hot day.
Which was embarrassing.
She chatted the entire ride making both me and Caleb laugh at her crazy stories. When we arrived at school all three of us went into the cafeteria and sat down.
"So are you guys going out or not?" Jill demanded staring at me hard as if trying to decipher my thoughts.
"Yes," was Caleb's response making me blush at the sudden realization.
"Look what you've done to her! You made her blush!" She screamed at him grinning from ear to ear.
"Is that a bad thing?" He asked looking surprised at her reaction while I just sat there to amused to say anything.
"No, but ever since I met her, she has been a cold wall that never spoke, never smiled or laughed, never showed emotion. It broke my heart watching her over the years with stoniness, but YOU have changed her!" She explained with tears in her eyes.
"I never meant to make you worry, but I thought if I could be emotionless than I couldn't be hurt," I say making her look at me, "I have had a past not worth talking about, but I will tell you this, I PROMISE I will never become stone ever again."
Sammy was so shocked by my words that her mouth hung open and and not a peep came out. I laughed at the sight. After three years of her constant chatter I finally made her be quiet.
Maybe I should have done this sooner! I chuckle to myself at my silly thought.
Just then the bell rang signaling the beginning of class.
"We are so NOT done with this conversation!" She exclaimed as she huffed and ran to her first class.
Caleb burst out laughing the minute she was gone making me laugh as well before we both hurried to get to class before we were late.
Everything seemed brighter today than it has in forever. The birds sung in their blooming trees as they welcomed the new day outside of our classroom. On a normal day the cheerfulness that they sent out to the world would annoy me and make me duck my head in frustration at the annoying noise, but today I welcomed it with open arms and I let this new found happiness make me smile.
The day flew by fast and soon lunch came around. Hand in hand Caleb and I walked in the lunch line to get our food when we heard a scream. Knowing who it was I groaned and turned around to see Jill standing in shock watching us in line.
I pulled Caleb out of the lunch line and I rushed over to where Jill was standing with her mouth wide open. Not wanting the attention she was attracting I drug her along with Caleb to my lunch time hideout.
"What are we doing in the choir room?" Jill asked me looking like a confused puppy who lost his way.
I didn't reply but nodded at Caleb who gave me a knowing look. I slid into the familiar wooden seat at the piano and felt the cold keys under my fingers.
I began to play my new song letting everything go as I did.
I've got a little secret. I've got a little secret to hide.
Always being careful, always got to keep it inside.
Hiding in the shadows, got to hide the truth from you.
Don't want to be hurt, cause I know that's what you'll do.Oo-oo. Hey-hey. Someday. Someday.
Oo-oo. Hey-hey. Someday. Someday I'll tell you...I hadn't made another verse yet so I let my voice drift off with the music feeling relaxed and happy that I finally worked up the courage to sing in front of Sammy. I looked up from my spot and about fainted. In front of me stood a crowd of shocked people including the principal himself.
The principal walked up to me and stared at me like this was the first time he has ever seen me.
"Will you play a song for graduation?" He asked loudly for everyone to hear.
"With pleasure," I replied bowing my head.
