“Row two, about face!" The commander of the 104th trainees squad barked. As he passed through row three, he stopped in front of a blonde boy, his hair touching his jaw line. His sky blue eyes were gentle and calm.
“Hey, mop top! What do they call you, maggot?!" Commander Shadis hollered. The blonde kid saluted.
“My name is Armin Arlert! I'm from Shiganshina, Sir!" Armin shouted to the top of his lungs, tightly shutting his eyes in the process.
“Wow, seriously? Why would your parents curse you with such a dumb name?!"
“It was my grandfather, Sir!" Armin flinched as Shadis got closer.
“What is a runt like you doing here?!" Shadis squalled.
“To help humanity overcome the titans!"
“That's delightful to hear, son. You'll be a good light snack for him. Row three, about face, runt!" Shadis hollered as he grabbed Armin by the head and forcefully turned his body to the right. 'Today's gonna be a long day.' I sighed. After a few short notices, it was row four's turn for the random introduction. Next to me on the right was a girl with smoky black hair, mellow grey eyes, and a red scarf neatly wrapped around her neck. To my left was a guy with bleached hair, sun kissed skin and at least three inches taller than me. His eyes were angled and if you had good vision, you can spot the golden flecks running down along the pupils of his hazel eyes. To my surprise, Shadis skipped me and moved to the guy on my left. “You", Shadis rasped, “What do they call you?" He narrowed his eyes. I thought I heard the guy next to me gulp as a drop of sweat travelled down his cheek, starting from his hair line. I don't know if it was because it was hot, or because he was nervous as fuck. He respectfully saluted.
“I'm Jean Kirchstein, Sir. I'm from Trost." He grinned with pride; or at least tried to.
“Hmm..." Shadis eyed him carefully. “What brings you here?"
“I want to join the MP's, Sir. The best of the best!" Jean bragged.
“So, you wanna live in the Interior, huh?" Before Jean could answer, Shadis slammed his head against the other male's. Groaning and shaking in pain, Jean dropped to his knees, holding his head in which Shadis struck him.
“No one told you to sit, soldier!" Shadis squalled with disapproval. “If you can't handle that, then don't even think about joining 'em!" I pitied Jean. Just as Shadis turned around, I crouched down and prodded the wounded soldier on the shoulder. He slowly looked up, pink flecks glowing on his tanned skin.
“Hey, are you okay?" I asked in a mother like voice. I felt stares on all directions.
“Nnnyyeah..." He stammered. I gave him a skeptical look.
“Don't move." I ordered as I placed my hand on his forehead. I began to channelize heat from my body onto the bruise on his forehead. He marvelled in the process. After a few moments, I retracted my hand from his forehead, watching as he clutched it in shock. “The pain is... gone..." He turned to me. “Thank you, uh; I didn't get your name?" He stammered. I rolled me eyes.
“Goldschmidt", I started with my last name, “Analise Goldschmidt."
“Hey, you!" I saw Shadis coming towards me, scuffing his leather boots against the sand. “I saw what you did. Tell me, why?" He snarled.
“Anyone, even the most retarded soldier knows the answer to that." I froze my gaze on his golden eyes. “Tch, obviously a noble soldier looks after his or her comrades." I narrowed my eyes. “Are you telling me that an experienced Commander such as yourself knows less than that of a cadet like me?" I furrowed my eyebrows as I challenged him an impossible question. My gaze flitted to the soldiers around me, some staring in shock and fear, others exposing envy at my courage and bravery to challenge the “horrid" Shadis. A sudden hearty laugh bursted into the air; it was rather annoying. I looked at Shadis to see him erupt into an uncontrollable laughter, his arms wrapped around his torso as he's wheezing for air at some points. “I don't emphasize why you are laughing, Sir." I said indignantly. “It's really disappointing not to laugh when someone is enjoying their time." He blatantly ignored me, continuing his annoying loud laugh and wiping tears on his sleeves. I growled, gritting my teeth revealing long fangs that are at least an inch long each. Everyone gasped, totally astonished. I felt the tickling tension of fear become a heavy fog. “Yo, her eyes are blank and her fangs are so long!" I heard a cadet gasp. Different colored hues looked directly in my eyes. True, when I get angry, my pupils suddenly disappear; and the fangs? I grew them. It was part of something that was given to me by force. Shadis abruptly stopped laughing and stared at me with a distorted look on his face.
“What the-?" He fumbled for words.
“Nothing's funny now, huh?" I took a step forward, standing nose to nose Shadis. His eyes widened. “Now it's my turn. 'Harty, harty, har, har..." I rasped. Dead silence and chilling tension filled the air. My pupils became bigger as I calmed down. I sealed my lips and saluted.
“It was nice challenging you, Sir." I slightly bowed. He bowed back with a proud grin.
“Listen up, maggots!" His hollering snapped everyone into a startled flinch. “I hereby applaud this one he'll of a challenge." He turned around to face the other cadets, almost whipping my legs with his knee-length cloak; which was stained with sand and dirt and was rather dull than it was an hour ago. “If there's anyone who's an impeccable smart ass with the wits of Corporal Levi himself, that would be her." He motioned his head to a dress me. “I expect to see you maggots use her as an example of a true soldier!" He began applauding, along with a few other soldiers. I blushed, feeling the heat of embarrassment on my reddened cheeks. “Alright!" Shadis shouted for attention. “We're moving on!"
