Cathy's POV
"The next victim's name is S-Shawn Men-Mendes."
It has been a year since I said those two words. A month since I heard it, 10 hours since I saw the name and heard his voice once again. Just remembering that name haunts me with the worst memories.
"Why are you stuttering?" Lexie asks.
"Because... I think my answer is wrong?" That sounded more like a question than an answer.
"Very good, CJ!" Chapman says as he pats my back. "Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you Squadron Kidnappers' next victim... Shawn Mendes!"
Daniel pressed another button and it showed a picture of Shawn on the white board.
I quickly turned my head away and closed my eyes for a second. I hate that man so much. I would love to drown him in a pool of tomatoes just to keep him away forever. I was shaking my feet like a kid who can't sit still. I could feel my eyes getting watery.
My eyes were shut tight to not let any tear fall but I guess it's also a bad idea. I could see flashes of my most hurtful memories. I could also feel the pain for some reason. It's like it all came back to haunt me again.
Why am so emotional about this?
I slowly opened my eyes and pursed my lips. I should look fine or else my friends will know something is off about me.
Lexie and Allison squealed like annoying fangirls. Wonder what would be their reaction when they know the truth?
I scoffed and rolled my eyes when in reality I want to walk out from this room already. I'm trying to stay calm.
"Oh my god, he's so freaking hot." Lexie says. "True Lex!" Allison high-fived Lexie.
Allison looked at me then spoke. "Oh come on, Cath. Don't you agree with us?"
"No thanks. I'm not into those guys like him." I glared at her and she raises an eyebrow.
"21 year old pop-star Shawn Mendes will arrived at Los Angeles tomorrow morning and a concert will be held few days after his interviews." Chapman starts to walk around the room.
"You know you could just kidnap him by using 6 packs of muffins and a guitar." I murmured but loud and clear enough to be heard by everyone.
I gasped before covering my mouth with my hand and my eyes grew wide as the words just came out of my mouth without me thinking. Everyone had a suspicious, confused and weird look on me.
"Anyway..." Chapman started explaining the plan.
"Daniel brings his duffel bag that is full of spy gear. He will spy Shawn's hotel room the whole day on an empty room of a building across the street. Report every hour." Chapman points at Daniel.
"Jim and Cathy will disguise. We'll reserve you a room near Shawn's as possible. Allison will hack into hotel maintenance and use the cameras in the elevator and in the floor where Shawn is." He pauses.
"We'll wait for Shawn to go to his interview, that means his guards and the team will be with him. When he goes away, Allison freezes the camera and unlocks the door, J and C will put trackers in Shawn's stuff and cameras. Before he comes back which is maybe in 15 minutes to 30 minutes, the plan shall be done."
Chapman rests his palms on the table, staring at us directly.
"What will I do?" Lexie asks.
"You, Lexie, will work on the following day for the second part of the mission." Chapman said and Lexie nodded.
~~~
That night, I was wide awake, thinking about all what could happen when we kidnapped him. Thinking about myself and my emotions when that happens.
Zzzt... zzzt...
My phone got a message. I opened it and got blinded by the light. Why are phones like this? Even if it's in the lowest brightness, it can light up a whole room.
From unknown: I'm sorry.
Well that's new. The creep apologizing in the middle of the night.
I responded with a Please stop texting me.
The creep read it but didn't replied. I sighed and placed my phone beside me. Then I went back to overthinking maybe everything, including the ones I don't want to remember.
