Cathy's POV
His voice was brittle and as weak as his body. All of us sat in silence around Chapman.
"Aren't you going to treat his shots?" I asked Chapman's sons.
"He doesn't want to." Daniel answers with his deep voice that it was barely understandable. I can already sense the mourn in his voice.
Chapman crawled his hand to Daniel's one and held it tight.
"Daniel," he took a long breath. "I'm very proud of you son. You were brave when everyone seemed scared. You were courageous when everyone was losing hope. You made me and your mom very happy. Keep your family safe and always keep an eye on Jim. Who knows what you two are up to."
He chuckles and turns to Jim.
"Jim, the day I saw you, I knew you had the potential. You were unique among the other kids that's why me and Cecile knew you're going to be the brother Danny always have dreamed of. You made everyone of us happy through the bad and good times, Jim."
"Lexie, my dear. I'm really happy that you finally found your true self. Cooking and making food for everyone. Before Squad K started, you were striving to reach your goals and you did. You made new ones and continue to achieve them. Continue to that Lexie and you might be the most successful person I know."
"Cathy." I looked at him.
"I know all your secrets sweetie that's why I made some choices I know you'll be surprised." He knew about Shawn and I. "You have the strength to fight all the obstacles in your way but sometimes it all gets too much right? Just know that we're here for you if you need any help. You know what is right and wrong, you made wrong decisions but still you stood up for the better. Never give up Cathy because it is the one that makes you stronger."
"I am all proud of you Squadron Kidnappers. After this, I hope you find your way back to your normal lives again." He slowly closed hi eyes. There was a second he tried to fight it but his tired body couldn't do it no more.
"I love you all as family. Chapman, over and... out."
His hold on Daniel's loosens until Daniel was the only one holding.
"Dad." He keeps his hand tight to Chapman's. He hugged his dad and cried on his shoulder.
A single drop of tear streamed Jim's face. He took hold of his father's other hand. More tears he shed when he felt no pulse at all and cried with his brother.
Lexie beside me was almost close to balling out her eyes. Her hand covered her mouth as she whimpered and hicupped. She was crying non-stop ever since Chapman last spoke to her.
I, on the other hand, felt a big warm tear escape my right eye. A sign of pain. I looked up to the ceiling to prevent more tears from coming out but I was still defeated. My lips quivered as I whimpered as well to the sight in front of me.
This is my third time loosing someone and that it truly broke my heart.
The squad seemed to be different now there is a big hole in it.
"I love you too, Dad." Daniel laid Chapman back to the bed. Me and Lexie left the room and went to our own businesses.
When I went out of the room, Shawn was leaning on the wall outside. Lexie covered the lower half of her face.
"It's ok Lex. He's seen us with our full face back inside." I said and turned to Shawn. Lexie walked away.
"What?" I asked him.
"I'm deeply sorry about your boss-"
"He's not my boss, more like family." I cut in. He nodded while twiddling with his fingers. I look at him emotionless and waited for him to talk.
"What happens now then?" He asks.
"We're packing up and maybe hide. Hide the whole time. And you, you stay here so the FBI can get you and bring you back to your normal life." I passed by him when I remembered something.
I took out his phone from pocket and gave it to him. "Here's your phone by the way." I grabbed his hand and placed it on his palm. His other hand covers my hand. It made me look at him.
There was sorrow in his eyes. Why would he feel sorrowful? It wasn't his fault. We were the main reason we're in trouble right now.
"Cathy," he softly speaks. "I hope we see each other again."
"I'm sorry Shawn but we can't and we shouldn't see each other. We're just not perfect to be together. There's no future for the both of us if we see each other. I hope you have a nice life after this." I slipped my hand out of his and went to my room to start packing.
Before I could even open my closet to grab clothes, the alarm of the house goes off.
"FBI! OPEN UP!" I heard. Shit, they're here.
"They're here." Lexie stood by my doorway. She looked so solemn like she has no energy left.
"We need to escape. Why are you not packing?" I asked her.
"Cathy, there's no way we could escape this now. We have no plan, no one to lead and we're obviously surrounded by now." She states, not moving from her spot.
"There's always an escape. And if we don't move now, Squad K is about to meet its end." I opened my closet and put clothes on the suitcase.
Lexie sighs and approaches me. "Maybe this is the end."
"IT'S NOT!" I shouted at her. Lexie jumped from my sudden outburst. "If you're willing to give up and let them get you then do it. But I wouldn't let them get me and arrest me!"
There's a loud pound on the front door. They're trying to get in. I hurried to put my needed stuff in my case.
"Ok, I just want to tell you that Jim and Daniel seems like they have no plan to escape as well."
I froze. "What do you me-" Lexie wasn't in the room anymore.
I sat on my bed. No one wants to go away from this except me so I started crying.
I never was a great person to cope up with loneliness. It has done horrible things not only to me but for everyone I was with. Right now, it was the only feeling I felt. All my friends are giving up and I'm here, packing up but then I'll be alone.
Why would be escaping worth it when you got no one to escape with? No one to help you run through the woods and outrun the people who want to arrest you. No one to enjoy when you've reached the safe place.
I wiped my tears and took a deep breath. Fine, I'll go with family.
I opened the lowest drawer of my bedside table and took out the gun. It was my Dad's. It was given to us when he died? Killed, sacrificed himself? I never knew. It has a great sentiment to me so it was the last thing I placed inside my suitcase before closing the bag and leaving the room.
