Time passed and a few days after the Golden Globes I had already forgotten about him. The day after the show, I drove to LA for one more night, with my parents. They had a business appointment and I wanted to go around and see the city.
After the Golden Globes there wouldn't be another big event for my family for about three weeks. That meant for us, back to North Carolina, what also meant I had to say goodbye to Maja again. Maja lives in South Carolina with her parents, what, obviously, isn't that far away from North Carolina but still so far away that we can only see each other at the weekends. We write and phone on a daily basis, but still, it would be cooler if I had my best friend with me every day.
Maja and I had planned to do a girls weekend two weeks after the Golden Globes and until then my everyday life would go on. That is, getting up in the morning for school, doing homework afterwards and going out with my friends.
The first week was boring, or at least uneventful. But in the second week something happened, that I had never expected.
When I checked my emails again after what felt like an eternity, I noticed an email of unicef. I first thought it was just an advert but when I clicked on it I saw that it was actually directed specifically toward me.
'Dear Miss Bruckheimer,
We were pleased to hear from your dedicated commitment towards charity. Your public contributions and donations helped us very much and we want to thank you for those.
We, the headquarters of the US unicef, think that it is in your interest too, to reach more people and inspire more people to do good and to help. The majority of our current supporters and helpers are 30 years old or older. Nowadays the public youth is so powerful, that we think it would be a great help to convince more younger people to do charitable things.
For better success in reaching younger people, we had planned on doing a new advert campaign in which we want to show younger people who engaged in charity before, like you.
If everything works like planned, you would represent the meaning of this campaign and be the first unicefyoung ambassador. The campaign is planned to be shown in national TV in America, Europe and on social media like Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube.
We look forward and hope for a positive answer,
Sincerely yours,
National Committee of the US unicef'
After I read the email for a second time excitedly, I took my phone and told Maja what just had happened. Next, I took my laptop and went down into our kitchen, in which my parents were, and showed them the email. I am still not of age, that means that I need their permission to do this campaign.
'Honestly, I'm not quite sure if it would be that good.', my Mum said surprisingly. I thought that both of my parents would say yes immediately, due that they support several helping organizations.
'We probably can't come with you because we have our own appointments, and you have never been gone alone before or even flown alone. You know that unicef is stationed in New York?' she said calmly and looked at me with care.
'Is that your only worry? I mean, I flew so often with you guys, I think I can do it one my own. And the trip wouldn't take that long. Two nights in New York at least, I guess.' I said argumentatively. 'Please Mum! You know that I tried to do something good for so long now and this would be a perfect chance for me. Dad, what do you think about this?'.
My father, who had kept to himself so far with a thoughtful look on his face, first looked at me, and then at my Mum with big eyes. 'Actually, I think this is a great opportunity that Julia should face, honey.' He began, 'We always knew that one day, would come the time, when Julia would be thrown in the public eye completely and I think as an ambassador for a charity is much better than through any scandal..'
