It was one of those nights, one of those nights where Alex felt horrible about herself. She sat on the couch with glass of scotch in hand. Your worthless, you don't deserve happiness, stop! You have nothing to cry about! I said stop! Thousands of thoughts ran through Alex's head.
She looked at her watch and read 7:30, she still had a couple more hours till Maggie got home.
Alex got up from the couch and walked to the bathroom, she closed and locked the door and reached up to a cabinet and pulled out a small thin piece of metal. Her shaving razor. She pulled up her blue sleeve and positioned it on her arm, she looked at herself in the mirror, and took a deep breath. She pushed the razor down on her arm and cut. She scrunched up her face and gasped at the pain. She repeated until she had four cuts across her wrist.
She fell to the floor and sighed at relief, that was the only thing that could take her pain away, at least for a little while. Alex was so focused on what she had just done that she didn't hear Maggie come home. Early.
"Alex?" Maggie shouted waiting for a response. She saw the empty glass and a bottle of scotch next to it, now she really knew something was up. She wasn't crying because of how stressed she was at work that day Maggie found her. It was something else, Maggie realized.
She walked to the bedroom to find it empty, she then noticed a light underneath the bathroom door. She knocked "Alex?" Alex didn't respond but Maggie knew she was in there and heard her breathing heavily. "Alex are you okay?" She said in a worried tone.
Still no response from Alex, she panicked and reached into her back pocket and pulled out a bobby pin and picked the lock on the door. She opened it and found Alex on the floor shaking and breathing heavily and bloody cuts on her arm.
"Alex!" Maggie almost yelled, "Hey, Hey, Hey look at me.. It's okay, your okay" Alex looked up into Maggie's eyes. Alex could see the worry and Terror in her eyes, that's exactly what she was afraid of, everyone worrying about her.
Maggie took the razor away from Alex and wrapped her arm up while humming to hopefully calm Alex down. Maggie could feel Alex's arm shaking as she was wrapping it.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry I dragged you into this you shouldn't have to do this I don't deserve it" Alex said trying not to break into tears.
"Hey your exhausted and drunk, let's go to bed we can talk more in the morning okay?" Maggie helped Alex up off from the floor and helped her to bed.
Once Alex fell asleep, Maggie walked into the kitchen and dialed Kara's number, it rang twice until she answered. "Hey Kara? Has Alex talked to you about anything or been acting differently lately? Did something happen to her recently?"
"Uhhh.. no why is she okay did something happen?" Kara asked.
"Kara I found her on the bathroom floor with bad cuts on her arm drunk, shaking almost unable to move.." Maggie sighed.
"Oh my gosh should I come over is she okay now??" Kara said quickly.
"She's okay and no she's already asleep but I'll text you if anything happens." Maggie hung up the phone and joined Alex in bed.
