Rey

I awoke with a start. Those words, that voice, they haunt me as I sleep. It's already been 3 days and every single night that I close my eyes, I hear them, I hear him. I've been waiting for someone my whole life to come for me, and in the throne room with the look in his eyes and the connection between us, it was like he was the one. The one that was meant to come for me. Ben Solo, the son of our general, though I could just be imagining things, just being delusional, grasping on to some hope.

I get out of bed and open the door to the small hut. It's chilly and still dark out, the sound of the nearby ocean filling up the silence. After Crait, Chewie and I brought the remaining members of the Resistance to Ahch - To. It's a safe place for us. As far as we know the First Order doesn't know of it so as long as we stay here they won't find us. But we can't stay forever, we need to end the war.

I grab my staff and walk towards the beach. It's not until I feel soft, cool sand between my toes that I realise I forgot to put on my boots. Honestly, I've forgotten my boots more times in the past few days than I'd like to admit.

The sand reminds me of Jakku. The desert planet where I was abandoned, a place I called home for so many years. The place where I met Finn. But this sand is different. The sand on Jakku was coarse and rough and irritating and got everywhere. The sand here is....soft and surprisingly comfortable to step on.

I allow the ocean to soak my feet while I sit on the beach, waiting for sunrise. Suddenly, I hear a whisper, "Rey." I look around. I see no one though, I must be hallucinating. Then I hear it again, louder this time. The voice is deep and rough, trembling as if the speaker is on the verge of tears. I hear the whisper one more time, even louder this time that it's no longer a whisper but close to a scream, then I feel a familiar sensation wash over me. It all feels like a memory, and I know this voice. I turn around.

"Ben," I say, my voice barely a whisper. I'm surprised by the sight of him. He's asleep, his dark locks of hair covering his closed eyes. Although the light is dim, I can see dark circles beneath his eyes and his muttering something. He's trembling and he's whimpering. He looks vulnerable, afraid. He's so full of fear it looks as if one stroke would be the end of him. Without understanding my actions, I move a hand slowly towards his face, towards his sharpened features...Before I touch him, he awakes startled, his breath short and panting. I take a step away from him.

He stands up and throws the sheets onto the floor. Ben walks over to a panel and switches on the lights then disappears into a bathroom to wash his face. He comes back in and stops in his tracks when he sees me. Shock flickers across his face for a second but then it's gone and he's regained his composure.

Without thinking, I blurt out, "I've never seen someone so afraid."

"I'm not afraid," he replies, his voice monotonous as ever without a quaver.

"You have nightmares," I state, my tone more curious than I would've liked.

Ben's eyes soften for a moment and I see something of gratefulness behind those dark eyes. "Conflicted souls never rest in peace."

"Why was I in your nightmare? Are you afraid of me?" I question him, pushing for answers, a small smirk playing across my lips.

"Afraid of you? Never. You should be afraid of me. I can find you easily and wipe out the whole Resistance," he replies.

"You won't."

"We'll see," with that he's gone again, and I'm back on the beach. Dazed, confused, and slightly in fear. I seemed so sure that he wouldn't come, but what if he does? There's something else as well...something like..longing. Do I want him to come?
