Rey POV

Suddenly the crowd of stormtroopers becomes denser than the morning fog, and all I see is white armour. I try to look for Poe or Finn or Rose or Leia or anyone but I can't see them. I try to look over the stormtroopers to find Ben, but I can't see him either.

I try to cut away the troopers, but I realise it's taking too much effort so I put my lightsaber away and pull out my blaster instead. I use one hand to focus the Force onto the soldiers to my left and hold them a slight distance away from me while I shoot down as many troopers as possible using the blaster on my right. The crowd thins but within seconds it's as thick as it was before and I've just wasted a lot of energy.

I drop my hold on the troopers, too exhausted to keep it up any longer, but the odd thing is their shooting seems to slow down as well. I hear a crackle of fire behind me and the sound of a lightsaber igniting, and I turn around expecting to see Ben. But it's not him.

There's a sharp pain in my abdomen. A strong stench of burning flesh. The clattering of my blaster on the ground beside me. Everything goes mute. My sight is blurred with tears. I can feel myself slipping away and then I fall. Gone. The last thing I see is the face of a ginger haired general and oh how I wish it was Ben. At least I know, I've managed to bring Ben home.

Ben POV

I open my eyes and jump up, looking around slightly dazed. Then I see him. Hux. I run closer towards him and I see what's happened. Rey drops to the ground, severed by a lightsaber, my lightsaber, wielded by a man with no heart.

I release a roar, so loud and so full of anger my throat hurts. I push Hux towards the wall of the cave using as much force as I can using the Force. I don't wait to see if I've killed him and I drop to my knees next to Rey. The whole world stops as I cradle her in my arms. "Rey," I whisper, pain in my voice, "Come back."

I sob into her hair as her skin goes pale, her warmth seeping away as the moments pass. Poe sinks into the sand behind me as he sees Rey. Gone. Finn yells in anger as he sees Rey. Gone. She saved me and I couldn't even save her. I couldn't even be there for her.

I hold her in my arms until my arms go numb and the remaining of the First Order is rounded up for imprisonment. It's only when the sun begins to set that Leia comes up to me, holds me and tells me, "We'll give her a proper funeral, but you can't be sick when we do." I take off my cape and wrap Rey in it, carrying her into the nearby cave, my knees weak, My heart ripped.
