Fight Back

"Fighting is not the answer, too much blood has been spilled already." I protest.

Gideon looks up at me

"I don't like it much either, but the council does have a point Katie. They killed two of our soldiers in cold blood."

Not much has been discovered on what happened. For the most part we were told, five men walked up to the main gate and demanded entry, when they were denied they men began to fire, bullets lined in vervain were used to weaken our guards, and stakes were plunged into their hearts, killing them.

The humans were obtained and taken straight to Gideon, at first he tried to reason with them, but the men wouldn't listen, ultimately they were sentenced to death.

We try not to kill if there is an alternative solution, compelling is one we use often. But in cases involving blood spilling or dramatic circumstances compelling has no affect.

"The more we kill, the more we show them just how cold blooded you can be."

I knew this hurt him, but it needed to be said.

"Killing seems to be the only thing we can agree on."
Gideon says bitterly.

"So why not be the bigger person and not fight, lay down your weapons and talk to them."

I sound ridiculous I know.

But Gideon's expression seems to think different

"It would need to be someone they trusted. Someone who has experience on both the human side and our side."

"You don't mean.."
I ask.

Gideon smiles

"You."

"Me?"

I don't understand

"Yes. You understand us now, you've lived with us long enough to know we're not dangerous. You can tell the humans we are to be trusted not feared."

He finishes.

I don't know how to respond, I'm shocked, scared and confused all at once.

"What about the trial?"
Is all I can think

"We can put it on hold, for now."
Gideon responds.

"Fine, but we do this my way."
I protest.

He's hesitant at first

"Okay, but I must insist you take/

"/no. If i'm doing this I'm doing it on my own."
I announce.

"Katie..."

"Or no deal."
I say standing my ground.

"Just promise me one thing"
he says calmly

"What?"
I ask.

"Promise me you'll come back."
