Thank you - Chapter 23

Troy’s POV:

I woke up letting out a groan as I felt the pounding in my head. I was about to sit up when I felt a weight on my stomach causing me to look down and notice Jess curled up on top of me with her head on my chest.

I tried to remember the events that occurred last night but only got a few glimpses of what happened. A draft blew through my door and hit us causing Jess to move even closer to me and to rub her nose lightly into my chest.

A smile came onto my face as I watched her snuggle further into my chest. I wrapped my arms around her sleeping body keeping her to me.

I couldn’t believe my Kitten had cancer, it breaks my heart that she has to go through this but I was going to be with her every step of the way and she was going to get through this.

Now my eyes had cleared and adjusted to the light I looked over at my clock to check the time. I saw 6:30 appear on my clock face at first I thought what the hell am I doing up so early but then remembered Jess had swimming at 7.

I gently shook her to wake her up and softly cooed in her ear, “Kitten, come on it’s time to get up.”

“mmmffggghhhh.” I got in response.

“Come on Kitten otherwise you’ll be late for swimming.” I reminded her.

“Fine.” She gave in.

“Are you sure your feeling alright?” I checked not wanting her to feel ill.

“No I’m fine besides I want to act normal as long as I can plus today’s my last day before I have to take a break from swimming until my chemo is over. I need to let coach know and also my skating coach to let them know I’ll be stopping for a while” She replied.

“Okay just let me know if you begin to feel unwell.” I told her.

“Yep I will thank you for caring.” She said and sat up kissing my cheek.

“Always.” I whispered.

As we got ready she brought up last night. “You drank way too much last night Babe, I never knew what a sappy drunk you are until then. You kept telling me how pretty I was and about how much you loved me again and again. I thought it was very sweet.” She teased.

I felt my cheeks heat up but played it off as it didn’t affect me. “Well what I said was true you are very pretty and you mean the world to me.” I said as we got ready.

We headed to the pool; Jess had her sessions whilst I sat at the side watching her glide through the water.

Afterwards we headed to her house to have a lazy day and just watch movies. Once we arrived we said hello to her parents the headed up to her room.

First we picked out a bunch of movies then we changed into comfy clothes, I slipped on my tracksuit bottoms and a t-shirt from the clothes that I keep at hers then she put on her cotton pyjama bottoms then grabbed one of my other t-shirts to cover herself.

She got comfy on the bed while I put the first movie, ’22 Jump Street’, in to kick off our lazy day.

“Is there anything you want before it starts Kitten?” I asked to see if she wanted anything.

“Can you run and grab some snacks and drinks from downstairs quickly Babe?” She asked looking up at me from beneath her lashes.

“Of course, I’ll be back in a second.” I left after giving her a soft kiss to her head.

I jogged down the stairs and into her kitchen to find her mum in there.

“Anything you need to Troy?” Julie asked.

“Umm yeah Jess wanted some snacks and drinks to have while we watch our movies.” I explained.

“Oh of course I’ll grab some stuff for you then you can take it up with you.” She said.

I smiled thankfully at her.

She put all the food and drinks onto a tray to make it easier for me to carry upstairs. Before I could go she put her hand on mine to stop me from leaving.

“Troy I just wanted to thank you for everything you do for Jess, I know you two really love each other and I’m so thankful that she has you otherwise I don’t know what she would do. You’ve really stepped up as I’m sure if some other guys found out their high school girlfriend was ill they would be off like a bullet. I guess what I’m trying to say is thank you I really appreciate everything you do for Jess.” She said and wiped a tear before it could fall.

“Julie you don’t need to thank me for anything, I love her and would never abandon her especially at her time of need, I will always be here for her no matter what.” I spoke truthfully.

She smile softly, “You better go up before she wanders where you are.”

I hurried up the stairs with the tray in hand to find her tucked under her duvet with the film paused waiting for me.

“What took you so long?” She wandered.

“Sorry Kitten your mum was in the kitchen so she got the stuff for me and we had a little chat.” I explained.

“Oh okay anyway hurry up and sit down so we can start the movie.” She demanded.

“Alright Miss Bossy.” I teased.

She giggled, oh how I loved to hear that noise.

I put all the food onto the bed and gave the drinks to her then lifted up the edge of her duvet and got underneath. Once I was comfy I pulled her close to me and relaxed so we could finally start the movie.

I pressed play on the remote and opened one of the popcorn bags for us to share and took a swig of drink.

 I knew no matter what we would get through whatever came our way as long as we were together.
