Chapter 4

I steadily walked towards the dragon, conserving every mole of energy . I could feel the constant "I will survive" notions in the front lobe of my left-side brain.

I looked at Nograd one more time- tall, mighty and Green in colour. "He's green, he's a Vegetarian right?". That thought didn't last long as my eyes fell on corpses and skulls scattered around me. "Well at least I wont be the first one..."  Zain Fortunato was the only one to survive the beast. And the reason clearly lied in his name. He-who-has-to-be-killed  was constantly staring at me and roared in an attempt to say,"Hello, Dinner!"

The dragons lair was quite spacious, the space being used for bones and bodies. The walls were grayish while the floor was slippery. There were deep claw-marks almost everywhere and one could estimate his strenght by it. The sunlight entered through an openning above and made the cave partially visible. Sir Zain had it right, this was the only time of the day when the cave received sunlight and one could get a step closer towards killing the dragon.

My olfactory lobes were filled with a rather strange, foul smell. "I should have brought an air freshener along," I said to myself.

There were huge sedimentary sandstone rocks everywhere around me forming a maze with the Dragon in the centre. They had in a sort trapped the dragon and maybe this is why he hasn't escaped the dungeon so far. On a second thought, why would he leave a place so warm...and with an occasional supply of delicious powerful warriors.

I had wasted a lot of time on my way already, I needed to hurry and get over with this atleast before the sun sets. A single mistake from this point onwards and it is a game-over for me. ''Remember, Zamorak, you have just one life''

I firmed my grip on the sword and stretched my arm so as to adjust the graphite shield. I closed my eyes for a fraction, thought about everything that had happened so far, summoned enough courage and marched towards the dragon right away. My first efforts were trying to lunge the damn sword into his abdomen, after which I managed to escape his dynamic paw. His paws were like that of a Lion and Claws like that of a desert eagle, an accurate strike and I would die twice in a minute.

But it wasnt that bad since I was able to anticipate his moves at times. Nograd then used his peculiar fire breath. I knelt before the efficient-against-fire graphite shield in order to protect myself. Well, at this point of time, I was definitely hotter than even Tom Cruise !

This went on and I struggled to get my scimitar to even touch him. I glanced back to what Sir Zain had taught me:

1. I have to constantly keep moving. Even the dragons lone touch could be fatal. I should see to it that I'm not standing at a particular place for more than a few seconds.

2. My attack should be rather quick than powerful. Apart from four limbs, Nograd's cerebellum controlled wings and his tail as well. So he had a rather poor reflex action.

3. Every time before casting his fire-breath, Nograd protrudes his head away from the target. This gave me a moment to hide behind the graphite shield.

These were like the cheat-codes in a game. It made things slightly easier. But Nograd wasn't stupid either. His breath grew stronger and I eventually had to take shelter behind the huge rocks.

" I don't need this sword, all I need is a damn Fire Extinguisher!"

I ran towards the dragon with all my strength. Nograd speculated that I was going to attack him, since his menacing eyes were completely focused at my sword, But I had a different plan.

Next, I knelt down, sliding through the space between his legs. Still in motion, I jumped onto the opposite rock and jumped again over Nograd, plunging my scimitar right through his head. "DIE, YOU UGLY GREEN LIZARD!!!"

I was swinging all over as Nograd shook his head and cried in agony. After a few seconds of struggle, he collapsed and with him, even I came crashing down. I looked at the cuts and bruises which happened to be no big deal while encountering a dragon."Well, better to be wounded than to be dead," I smirked. Pulling out my sword from his head, I exhaled fatigue and anxiety. I was relieved like never before. Before running back towards this exit, I took a moment with the dragon. I smiled as I picked something off, "He deserves it."

I walked my way back to the cave-entrance, self proclaiming myself a 'dragon warrior' and expecting a huge applause in few minutes.

Saleo is going to be happy about this, I sure have earned my way to Meherock.
